The onsite teachers at both campuses returned last week from their Christmast break!

A big thanks to all of you that came together to help cover some of the funding for the educational support program for the Lar.

Several of the children have shown progress after these teachers were hired to do 1 on 1 and small study groups to support our kids in their school work!

Did you know that when most of the children arrive at the Lar, they have not been to a school and many of the kids have learning disabilites. This is why we need these onsite teachers.

We are still short to cover the 4 teacher salaries for the rest of the year. Will you give? Recently, some promised funding was cut short and this is an urgent need.

For all 4 salaries, for the remainder of the year, we need to raise an ADDITIONAL $10,500 than what has already been appointed to support this onsite educational support program.

Please give and when you do, you are investing in the lives of these children!

Give at www.davislar.org and please designate funds for educational support.

You can contact the onsite missionaries for more details, specific testimonies, or questions at [email protected]

A Davis Lar Children's Home fundraiser 10 years ago! Matt is so excited to be there.๐Ÿ™‚ With the pandemic, fundraisers have not happened. Fortaleza is on lockdown due to another spike and counties have defaulted on their grants which makes it tough to take care of 60+ children. Would you like to help? Donate through paypal.me/DavisLarICF!

We put the need out there and so many of you have given to help!
We are still falling short on the financial needs and still are asking for more support for food, staff salaries, and the basic living needs that the 68 kids here need.

Did you know that you can do your amazon shopping at www.smile.amazon.com and help financially support the Lar at the same time?!!

Please buy your amazon orders through amazon's charity giving link! Many have done this for a few years and it is safe and secure.
When you go to the site, on the top left will be a drop down arrow beside Amazon Smile.
- click the drop down arrow
- type in Davis Lar Children's Home as your appointed non profit to receive funds from your purchases (it will have a Greer address)
- and shop away as usual!
A percentage of funds will be sent to the Davis Lar account with each purchase you make!

Merry Christmas!

I received a call from Pastor Marcos, president of the Davis Lar. Covid-19 has devastated the Brazilian economy and government grants feeding our kids are not being paid. Well, it's Christmas!! Did you know $150 will feed 20 kids at the Lar for a week? Or go hog wild and donate US$600 to feed all 66 plus caregivers ! Consider giving. Help restore these children and prepare them for an incredible future. http://davislar.org/get-involved/give-a-gift/

Did you know that the Lar has 16 house moms and then 4 additional ladies that help in the kitchen and the donation closet?

Each house on our 2 campuses have 2 house moms. The house mom stays for a week and they switch out on Fridays. These house moms receive training and support (spiritually and educationally) to help best equip them to care for the children they are helping raise.
They do a great job of keeping the kids in a well structured environment, teaching them scripture each week, and delivering graceful discipline to the children and teens.

We have about 4 house moms that have been on staff with us at least 10 years! And, the very first house mom that was hired has been through college and special training and she is now the Lead social worker and trains all the house moms -she has been with us 20 years.

The staff at the Lar have been greatly blessed by the short term teams and interns that have joined us over the last 20 years. They also are paid, which the funds you donate help cover the salaries.

This month, our goal is to raise an extra $1,000 per month to help cover the "beans and rice fund" for the lar. ( that is the basic daily living expenses needed to house the kids and teens that are here.)

Do you have a place of work that is willing to contribute to the Davis Lar?
Maybe your family wants to help.
Or your small group, youth group, or Sunday school class?

Please consider how you can help contribute.

Today we want to share more facts!

Did you know that the Davis Lar has been going on for 20 years now! (we are working on sharing that entire story on how it started in the near future)

The 74 kids living there now range in ages from 1yr - 23 years old. And the Lar does not age out!
We have a powerful team that is lead by a social worker that carefully creates an exit plan with each young adult when it is time for them to leave.
If the young adult is working towards furthering their education, job training skills, or another avenue to best equip them to be productive citizens and they are following rules and expectation of the Davis Lar, then they can remain under the Davis Lar until they have established a job and 6 months of savings.

We continue to be in need of an additional $1,000 per month for the next year to cover the Rice and Beans funds. (food, hygiene products, and basic living needs)

Got questions? please comment below or email [email protected] (onsite missionaries)

Today is a day that many call "Orphan Sunday".

While we know that these children of the Davis Lar our children of God, the world may see them as orphans.
Currently, the Davis Lar is housing 74 children and teens. We are funded by supporters in the States and Brazilian supporters.

We believe in taking in these children so that we can be a voice for them, help them understand their image in the name of Christ, teach them that God does have a hopeful future for them, help prepare and equip them to be productive and contributing adults, and to get them the adequate care they need in order for them to best heal from the trauma they have been given.

Where do you step in? We are in great NEED to enlarge our "rice and beans" fund.
What is that? That is the funds that cover the daily needs for the kids we are caring for.
Food, medicine, and hygiene products make up the bulk of the fund.

For the rest of this month, we are making it a goal to raise at least $1,000 more per month to help with the rice and beans fund. You can give 1 time or commit to monthly. All proceeds are tax deductible and are managed by a board of directors that monitor the funds for the Davis Lar.

We want to share more pictures and details throughout the month. Let us know in the comments if there are any details you would like to know!

The big ASK is this:

Can you help us as we continue to take in and care for the kids?
