Early Sunday morning we received word that a trusted brother, friend, and mentor of AKK had passed on to his eternal home. David Surrett was nothing but a champion for youth and a champion of life, his legacy will leave an impact for years to come! Other than serving in the BRC he was a member of every council in the state of SC during his tenure in ministry and scouting.

While pastoring at Lee Road United Methodist Church in Taylors from 1996-2002, he served the Blue Ridge Council as Chartered Organization Rep for that church.
It is in this church’s troop that Myles Surrett (long-time COI Staffer) earned his Eagle Scout award.
David was active on the district committee and in council and OA matters during this time too.
While here, on Jan. 18, 2001, David received the District Award of Merit from Foothills District in BRC.

From 2013 to 2016, he was back in the area at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca.
Then from 2016-2020, he was at Central United Methodist Church in Newberry.
During the 2013-2020 time period, David served the Blue Ridge Council as Council Training Chair 2015 and 2016, Council VP-Cub Scouting 2017 and 2018. His final role was as Council Commissioner for 2019 and 2020.
He served as the Service Council lead for the multi-council Commissioner’s College while Council Commissoiner.
He also provided OA leadership to the section during this time and served on NOAC Staff for each NOAC while in the Blue Ridge Council during this time.
He was presented the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award from the Blue Ridge Council on November 17, 2016.

He became the NST 15 Lead for Diversity in 2021 and was presented the Silver Antelope Award at Camp Old Indian in 2022.

GOBBLER GRAB - Arrowmen needed!

We have been asked by WSPA to have Arrowmen for early morning TV interviews on WSPA and CBS 7. This would be on November 13th from 4:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Location: Simpsonville United Methodist Church
215 SE Main St
Simpsonville, SC 29681

Subject:
WSPA LIVE MORNING GOBBLER GRAB

“Good Morning,

Thanks so much for taking my call Jon.

Our coverage would be on WSPA Daybreak, our daily morning show on Channel 7 and WYCW.

Myself and the photographer I work with would arrive at the location of your choice at 4:30 AM. We would complete 6 live interviews with you and your crew.

Interview times include 4:50 am, 5:20, 5:50, 6:20, 6:50, on CBS and 7:15 am on WYCW.

We would love to make the morning as visual as possible as you encourage people to donate turkeys on your specified dates. You mentioned having the morning at the church where people can drop off later in the week which makes a lot of sense! Having a few examples of turkeys, Boy Scouts etc. would be great too.

Would this be something you'd like to work together on? Please let me know as soon as you're able. Thanks so much!

Would Monday November 13 work for you?

PATCHES! | Brothers, we need a patch set design for the 2018 patch set. This is your chance to have your name go down in the history books with the pride that you designed an official patch set of the lodge! Both illustrated designs and ideas are welcome. We will vote on the final patch design at the October ECM scheduled for October 29th at 2 PM at the Council Office. The brother who designs the patch set will gain spirit points for his Chapter at the Fall Fellowship and will be publicly recognized in front of the lodge at both the Fall Fellowship and Winter Banquet. This is open to both adults and youth. All submissions are due to the Lodge Chief through email ([email protected]) by October 22nd at midnight. WWW
