Early Sunday morning we received word that a trusted brother, friend, and mentor of AKK had passed on to his eternal home. David Surrett was nothing but a champion for youth and a champion of life, his legacy will leave an impact for years to come! Other than serving in the BRC he was a member of every council in the state of SC during his tenure in ministry and scouting.
While pastoring at Lee Road United Methodist Church in Taylors from 1996-2002, he served the Blue Ridge Council as Chartered Organization Rep for that church.
It is in this church’s troop that Myles Surrett (long-time COI Staffer) earned his Eagle Scout award.
David was active on the district committee and in council and OA matters during this time too.
While here, on Jan. 18, 2001, David received the District Award of Merit from Foothills District in BRC.
From 2013 to 2016, he was back in the area at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca.
Then from 2016-2020, he was at Central United Methodist Church in Newberry.
During the 2013-2020 time period, David served the Blue Ridge Council as Council Training Chair 2015 and 2016, Council VP-Cub Scouting 2017 and 2018. His final role was as Council Commissioner for 2019 and 2020.
He served as the Service Council lead for the multi-council Commissioner’s College while Council Commissoiner.
He also provided OA leadership to the section during this time and served on NOAC Staff for each NOAC while in the Blue Ridge Council during this time.
He was presented the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award from the Blue Ridge Council on November 17, 2016.
He became the NST 15 Lead for Diversity in 2021 and was presented the Silver Antelope Award at Camp Old Indian in 2022.
