The 2026 GCA School in Montréal is now in the books. What a whirlwind five days! We had 27 students, from zero experience to twenty years experience being put through their paces, with Barry Clasper, Rob French, and Ted Lizotte as the main coaches. Harlan Kerr filled in as coach for the first two days, but was the 'he's everywhere!' school coordinator. Kris Jensen, Karla Westphal, and I were their trusty seconds as the TAs.

There were certainly some shining stars in the group, but we all came out of it with stronger knowledge and skills than when we went in.

The 2027 Albuquerque GCA school is well into planning now, and next year, we will have a professional vocal coach working with us!

Students can certainly apply for scholarships for this CALLERLAB-accredited school. Check the website gaycallers.org for details.

Oh, and one of our students won the H***y Tonk Pageant--can you guess who?

Note from Harlan Kerr, GCA VP and Caller School Coordinator:

Hello All:

I am writing to encourage you to invite your partners, club mates, and friends to volunteer as real-people dancers at the Montréal GCA Caller school. Additionally, please ask them to join us for the graduation dance this Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

[The school is Saturday June 27 2pm to Tuesday June 30 evening in Salon A-C. The graduation Dance is Wednesday July 1 9am in the Drummond Ballroom with 27 students calling!]

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Harlan

I know this is a long shot, but the San Francisco Bay Area needs more callers. Most of the club callers are calling 3, 4, or even 5 times a week. It's difficult to find a substitute when we need a week off. To exacerbate the situation, many of you know that I'll be moving away to KC, MO later this year.

If anyone has considered moving to this area, there would be some immediate opportunities available to you. Ideally you have some reasonable experience under your belt. We have some really great new callers just getting started but not ready to be a club caller or teach classes.

It's certainly not cheap to live here, but you already know that. If you (or someone you know) have considered moving here and might be interested in learning more about the area square dance scene, please reach out.
