Join us at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum for a new program presented by the WWII History Roundtable- Audie Murphy Chapter featuring WWII veteran Don Graves. Starting at 7pm July 25th Don will talk about the Iwo Jima invasion, the men he served with and his life before and after the war. Graves was a flame thrower with the 5th Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, D company. Grave's Platoon was assigned to climb Mount Suribachi. He was at the top when the historical picture was made of the Marines hoisting the flag and he personally knew Ira Hayes, one of the flag raisers. Join us Thursday October 26th for a lecture from Dr. Stephen R. Taaffe for his seminar entitled “George Marshall’s Generals— Selecting the Men Who Won WW 2”. Visit our page for more information. Free admission, event starts at 7:00 PM CST at the Audie Murphy Cotton Museum.

Seminar overview: Covering a wide range of generals across WW2, Dr. Taaffe hopes to give an insight into who some of America’s most impactful generals were both on and off the battlefield. Included is special focus on General George Catlett Marshall, arguably one of the most important United States generals of the 20th Century. Taaffe’s seminar will focus not only on the successful traits of generals such as MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Patton, but also those whose leadership in battle failed.

Speaker Information: Dr. Taaffe is professor of American military history at Stephen F. Austin State University Nacogdoches, Texas. Among his many books are “MacArthur’s Jungle War”, “US Army Commanders of WW II”, and “Marine Corp Generals of WW II”. His doctoral degree was awarded by Ohio University.

The Audie Murphy Chapter of the WW II History Roundtable will present a lecture by featured WWII historian Dr. Steven Taaffe Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 7:00 PM CST in the Grand Hall of the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum located in Greenville, Texas. Address: 600 Interstate Highway I-30. No admission charge. Q&A to follow. Dr. Taaffe’s lecture is entitled “George Marshall’s Generals— Selecting the Men who Won WW2”.
