Dear Friends and Supporters of InDwellings,
I’m writing this letter with deep sadness over a dream that has been lost. Our Board of Directors has decided to dissolve InDwellings due to the increasing restrictions of state funding and increased regulation.
Many of us on the board had been working diligently toward the dream of providing a home for adults with intellectual disability- “a good Christian home”.
While we are disappointed that we were unable to fulfill the dream of the homes we hoped to build, we
are even more disheartened by the inability to fulfill our commitment to serve those with intellectual disabilities. However, it would’ve been more distressing to open the home only to close it in a year or 2. That would have left the residents and their families in a very difficult situation.
We are uplifted by the spirit of cooperation, the countless volunteer hours, and the support which we received. We are gratified by the successful efforts to increase the knowledge about the growing need for homes to serve those with intellectual disabilities.
You may be wondering what will happen to the house that we have remodeled and furnished. We have sold the house to a private company that provides housing for individuals with differing abilities. Our board has divided the remaining funds among several worthy charities in South Carolina that provide services to individuals with disabilities and to children’s charities.
We remain strong in our faith and conviction that the Lord will provide a home for those individuals we desired to serve. Thank you for all that you have done.
Sincerely,
R Curtis Rogers
InDwellings Board President
