Hope Afield welcomed Lt. Gagliardi and Sgt. Powell of the Greenville Police Department to begin our afternoon activities. These officers discussed some of the dangers of social media, the importance of making wise choices and answered questions about how to become an officer, the duties of an officer and why they wanted to be an officer. Thank you Sgt. Powell and Lt. Gagliardi for your service to our community and for sharing with us today.

Students enjoyed red light, green light basketball style, gaga ball and a special treat of riding the horses. In life application, we discussed “Dealing with Feelings”. Our Biblical examples were David and Saul in I Samuel 24. David learned to control his feelings towards Saul rather than take revenge. David trusted God to help him.

We are extremely grateful for our volunteers who mentor our students, help with set up, clean up, serving, driving the bus and assisting with activities. Thank you to Robert Powell, Russell Demings, Pam Holp, Debbie Jean Owens, Abi Grant, Jessica Maddox, Ronnie Matthews, Dale Brannon, Deidre Herbert and Dalton McGuire for your help this afternoon.

Hope Afield welcomed twenty-one students as our After-School Program began this afternoon! Thank you Ms. Callie for organizing and directing our activities! After snacks, free play and gathering the last of the peppers from the garden, it was time for a music class. Phil and Debra Hobbie demonstrated with a guitar, banjo, dulcimer and a mandolin and also discussed the positive benefits of music. The students enjoyed singing along and trying out these string instruments. Thank you, Mr. Phil and Ms. Debra for sharing your talents and encouraging our students to try their musical skills.

During game time, students enjoyed a nature scavenger hunt. The competition was on as students divided into teams and went on the search for items on their list. In life application, the Biblical example was the story of the Good Samaritan. Jesus told this story to teach the importance of loving and respecting others - even those who may be different from us. Do we strive to be respectful in our daily walk? We are grateful to Robert Powell, Russell Demmings, Pam Holp, Debbie Jean Owens, Abi Grant, Jessica Maddox, Ronnie Matthews and Erick Horne for assisting and helping to make our afternoon flow smoothly! You are appreciated!

Hope Afield’s 2026 Day Camps are in the books! It has been a busy summer filled with new adventures, learning new skills and building new relationships. Thank you to all who have invested in the students and programs of Hope Afield.

This afternoon, the students enjoyed art, games, bead making crafts, kickball, gaga ball, meal time and creating their own ice cream sundaes. As students prepare to return to school soon, we discussed ways that we can be responsible, show respect and be ready. Let’s remember to treat others the way that we would want to be treated. Book bags filled with school supplies were distributed. We pray that our students will have a wonderful school year. We will take a short break to recoup and prepare for our Fall after school program which will begin on August 18th. As we left for the afternoon, Ms. Callie captured a picture of a rainbow over our pavilion. What an awesome reminder of God’s promises and blessings!

This afternoon, Hope Afield welcomed Darrell and Jamie Powell and volunteers from the Walnut Street Church of Christ. Thank you for all of your hard work, time and energy to share with us. With the theme “Jesus is Risen”, students enjoyed rock painting, picture frame decorating, Bible lessons, singing and applications. Backpacks were distributed to students as they discussed that as a backpack helps to carry our belongings, Jesus will help us carry our load. To whom can we share the Good News that Jesus is alive and loves each of us? A special thanks to Cindy Thomas for the delicious homemade rolls that were served with our meal!

Hope Afield also welcomed Jeff Helms and Lydia East from the Alfa Federation. They toured our facilities and learned about the programs and services offered at Hope Afield. Thank you for traveling down to visit! It was also great to see Kindal Parker and her children this afternoon. Kindal volunteered and was a part of Hope Afield during her college days at LBW almost 10 years ago!

Our afternoon ended with a fun game of kickball and a visit with Sugarfoot that Ms. Callie used to discuss manners and behavior. A tremendous thank you to Ronnie Matthews, Abi Grant, Pam Holp, Sarah Smith and Debbie Jean Owens for assisting with set up, clean up, serving, driving, taking pictures and providing storylines! Hope Afield is blessed to have you on our team!

Our last full day at camp ended with skit night and fireworks! Our students did a great job participating in their cabin’s skit. Everyone then enjoyed sitting around the lake and watching the fireworks. The younger ones are off to bed and the older campers are gathered around a bonfire for a late night devo. Today’s lesson theme has been “Walk with Others”. Paul and Timothy were Biblical examples. “Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith and your purity.” I Timothy 4:12

We will travel home after lunch tomorrow. Prayers for safe travels would be greatly appreciated!
