Fishing Day at Hope Afield! Lots of smiles and laughter as students and their helpers practiced their fishing skills! Some students had never fished before and almost everyone caught at least one fish of some size and type! Fishing is always a favorite activity. Thank you Ms. Callie for organizing the afternoon.

In life application, we took a closer look at our memory verse “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.” Examples of times when these virtues could be used in our everyday lives were discussed. Let’s always try to do good to all people!

Everyone enjoyed time outdoors on this beautiful Fall afternoon! Mr. Robert lead us in a social skill lesson on gratitude and friendship. We have a choice to make - complain and criticize or focus on what is good and going right. We can improve friendship skills by encouraging others, showing respect and being trustworthy. Thank you Mr. Robert for helping us build good character traits!

It was great to welcome back Mr. Mike and Ms. Tiffany who assisted with activities this afternoon! The students were excited to visit and spend time with them. A game favorite, Nine Square was enjoyed before going inside for life application. Our Biblical example in our series “Truth be Told” was Achan. When we are tempted to do wrong, think of the consequences of our choices. Strive to make good choices and follow God’s guidelines for honesty.

Thank you also to Pam Holp, Deidre Herbert, Jessica Maddox, Ronnie Matthews and Russell Demings. We are appreciative of our Hope Afield’s team of dedicated servants!

Our Fall 2026 Boston Butt Sale and Work Weekend has been a great success! Thank you to all who purchased Boston Butts in support of Hope Afield, sold tickets and assisted with distribution and pickup. A group from the Maysville Church of Christ and team members and coaches from the Faulkner University Cross Country Team assisted with the prep and sale and other projects. The old corral was dismantled and a new corral was set up for our equine assisted learning program. The pavilion and all tables and benches were cleaned, electrical work was completed, downed trees were cleared, pole saw work and clearing was done, shrubbery was trimmed and pine straw was put down, a new flag was raised, arts and crafts containers were organized, Fall Festival treat bags were assembled, leaves were mulched and soccer nets were replaced. What a great group of workers! Thank you for your servant hearts! A special thank you to Whitaker Drugs and Quality Co-op for your partnership with this weekend’s activities!

It was basic home and car maintenance at Hope Afield this afternoon! Thanks to Mr. Erick and Mr. Briar for demonstrating changing the battery in a smoke alarm, the usage of various tools and discussing the proper placement of a car jack to change a tire. The students enjoyed this hands on life skills’ activity. Thank you Mr. Erick and Mr. Briar for sharing with us!

In life application, we started a new series on “Truth Be Told - Honesty”. Our theme verse will be Philippians 4:8. This afternoon, we discussed the Ten Commandments. Rules help us know right and wrong. Rules help us know how to treat other people. Students enjoyed making a craft to remind them to follow God’s rules!

We can’t say enough about a great group of volunteers who take the time out of their busy schedules to assist with Hope Afield’s activities! Thank you Dale Brannon, Pam Holp, Jessica Maddox, Deidre Herbert, Abi Grant, Paisley Huneycutt, Russell Demings, Robert Powell and Ronnie Matthews!

Volunteer Spotlight

We are blessed with wonderful volunteers and for the next several weeks we will be highlighting different areas in which you can help! As our Tuesday After-School Program continues to grow, we are searching for other volunteers to join us! A specific need is for assistance in teaching our younger students a short life application Bible based lesson. We will provide lessons and all materials needed. If you are interested, enjoy working with children, love Jesus and are available to serve on Tuesday afternoons from 3:45-5:45, let us know!

Thank you to Mr. Todd Russell for sharing his life story and words of wisdom this afternoon at Hope Afield. Mr. Russell stressed that through different stages of our lives, God always cares for us and He is faithful. Trust that God has a plan for each of us and He will direct our steps if we will follow Him.

Ms. Callie lead the students in an art class. Using oyster shells, students painted and decorated to create an angel. The students always enjoy art activities and were proud of their creations! In life application, we discussed the life of Nehemiah and rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. When we ask for help, have a plan and all work together, it makes for a better community! We appreciate everyone who assisted this afternoon. Pam Holp, Jessica Maddox, Deidre Herbert, Karen Graham, Russell Demings, Ronnie Matthews, Robert Powell and Erick Horne, thank you for your servant hearts! It was a busy and active afternoon! Our afternoon closed with a rain shower and a beautiful double rainbow to remind us of the goodness of God!

This past Thursday evening, I had the opportunity to attend the Greenville Middle School football game and 8th grade recognition night. I was able to go down on the field to take a few pictures of some of our Hope Afield students. We are so proud of our students’ accomplishments and participation in school activities. This afternoon, Hope Afield welcomed Mr. Joe Eiland, Superintendent of Education for the Butler County School System. Mr. Eiland shared his life story and encouraged students to persevere through tough times, find ways to manage their anger and disappointments and make the most of their lives no matter life’s circumstances. Thank you, Mr. Eiland for urging us to be the best we can be!

Students enjoyed a game of Who Am I Story Charades and cleaned out the raised bed garden and added to our fire pit with fallen limbs. In life application, our Biblical example was Joseph. No matter where Joseph was or what he was doing, he tried to do his best…even in very difficult circumstances. Let’s remember that we will be happiest when we choose to make the most of our lives and follow God.

We had a great group of students this afternoon and we are grateful for all who assisted in keeping the afternoon flowing smoothly! Ronnie Matthews, Robert Powell, Russell Demings, Jessica Maddox, Deidre Herbert, Pam Holp and Debbie Jean Owens, you are making a difference in the lives of our Hope Afield students!
