Call to Action!! North Carolina's recently passed budget eliminates the N.C. Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs, including the Environmental Educator Certification Program—a highly respected program that has trained many of NC's recycling program coordinators and environmental educators.

This office operates on a modest annual budget of just $275,000, and there may still be an opportunity to restore its funding.

The Environmental Educator Certification Program has helped equip professionals across North Carolina with the knowledge and skills to educate students and communities about recycling, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. Its impact reaches far beyond the classroom and directly benefits our recycling industry and local communities.

Please contact your state legislators at https://www.ncleg.gov/FindYourLegislators and ask them to restore funding for the NC Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs. Every voice matters, and your support can help preserve this valuable resource for future generations.

TBT Time! 👏 Members of the Carolina Recycling Association gathered on June 10 for a Lunch & Learn hosted by EGGER Timberpak, offering attendees a firsthand look at how wood waste can be transformed into valuable raw materials through innovative recycling processes.

The event began with a tour of the EGGER Timberpak facility, where attendees learned how construction and demolition wood, pallets, and other recovered wood materials are processed and prepared for reuse in particleboard manufacturing. Attendees saw the circular economy in action, gaining insight into how recovered wood is diverted from landfills and reintegrated into new products. EGGER's Timberpak facility serves as a critical link in the company's closed-loop approach to sustainable manufacturing.

We've all seen it happen: a perfectly recyclable item headed straight for the trash can. 😬

Whether it's a bottle, can, cardboard box, or paper, taking an extra second to sort it correctly helps keep valuable materials in circulation and out of the landfill.

The votes are in! We are pleased to announce the following members have been elected for the CRA Board of Directors! The 2026 CRA Annual Meeting and Town Hall Forum was held on March 18, 2026 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Elections and voting were held virtually from March 19-March 25, and during the Annual Conference & Trade Show at CRA’s voting booth. Please give them a mental high five, and thank you to all candidates who put their names forward for our Board of Directors election! 👏👏👏
