This violence repeats itself year after year—and as a nation, we’ve grown numb. The outrage we feel fades too quickly when it isn’t followed by action.
That is why I founded this organization. That is why I spent two years fighting, researching, and refusing to back down.
Our tools won’t erase every risk, but they do ensure our staff is better prepared to protect children. Because:
Children deserve to be safe at school.
Teachers are not bodyguards.
And even one life lost is one too many.

Two children are dead and 17 others are injured after a shooting during a back-to-school Mass at the Annunciation Catholic School, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

The children were ages 8 and 10. Two other children are in critical condition. Multiple children are being treated at Children’s Minnesota, a hospital spokesperson said.

The gunman, who police say was in his early 20s, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Open house last night was fantastic and even more so because our new locks are installed!!

So thankful for everyone who has supported this project by funds and encouragement. It’s been a long road but completely worthwhile.

Hearing staff comment on the new locks made my night!

✨ What a great night! ✨
We loved getting to meet our new principal, Ms. Covington, and reconnecting with some of our favorite staff members. This school year is already off to a great start!
Here are a few updates to keep in mind:

🔐 New Door Locks Are In!
A project two years in the making is finally complete — the new security locks have officially been installed!

🚗 Car Tag Info:
I know many of you are asking — car tags haven't arrived yet. Ms. Rhem shared that they’re on the way. Stay tuned to the NEW HB Sugg & Sam D Bundy Elementary Schools page for updates. I’ll also share any news here and on my personal page.

📍 Enrollment & Transfers:
Need to register or transfer? Stop by the new enrollment office on the Sam D. Bundy side. This is a different location than in years past!

🎒 Kindergarten Staggered Start:
• A–L attends Aug. 25
• M–Z attends Aug. 26
• Everyone together on Aug. 27
Kindergarten parents can walk their little ones in the first week. All other grades can walk in with parents on the first day only.

🧼 Clean-Up Day:
Saturday, Aug. 9 | 8 AM–12 PM

🏫 Open House:
Wednesday, Aug. 21 | 4–6:30 PM (floating)

I truly cannot express how thankful I am that we have finally reached this point. Since the spring of 2023 I have been researching and advocating for more safety features at our school. It may sound silly but I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes knowing that we have finally accomplished what I set out to do 💙💛

While we navigated the fire code issues with locks we were able to fund and have installed bullet resistant window film and we are finally in the short rows for new locks!

We know this doesn’t prevent violence but we have better armed our teachers and staff with the tools necessary to do what no one should be tasked to do, protect our children from those who intend harm. We can’t and won’t stop here there are more ways we can help our school(s) and we intend to do so.

It’s been awhile since our last update but we are still working behind the scenes and today proved yet again why this fight is such an important one.

No matter your political opinions this statement from President Biden is right on target

“From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, to so many other shootings that don’t receive attention - it is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence. We cannot continue to accept it as normal,” he said. “Every child deserves to feel safe in their class room. Students across our country should be learning how to read and write – not having to learn how to duck and cover.”

This is not political, this is about the safety of our children. No parent should drop their child off or send them off to school and they not return home.

I am heartbroken for the loss of those parents and families. I am heartbroken for the Madison community. This is why I will continue to push, fight, beg, and plead. Our kids deserve safe schools!
