The SCAA Education Committee had a fantastic time at the 99th Annual SC FFA State Convention in Greenville, SC!

We were able to connect with hundreds of middle and high school students from across South Carolina, sharing the many opportunities available within the aggregates industry. From learning about the essential role aggregates play in our everyday lives to exploring rewarding career paths, it was exciting to engage with the next generation of leaders and workforce talent.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, asked questions, and showed interest in our industry. Investing in workforce development and industry awareness continues to be a priority for SCAA, and we look forward to building even more connections with students across the state.

And a special thank you to our Education Committee volunteers who shared their valuable time and expertise with the next generation!

June is National Safety Month, a time to reinforce our industry's commitment to protecting the people who make our operations possible every day. This year, NSSGA's Safety Month focus is risk management, including how emerging technologies can help us identify hazards, reduce risks, and strengthen workplace safety.

The Intelligence of Safety, which examines how artificial intelligence can support safer operations through real-time monitoring, predictive insights, and improved decision-making. As technology continues to evolve, understanding its role in creating safer workplaces is becoming increasingly important for our industry.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to participate in Spartanburg Community Counselor Week, connecting with more than 35 middle and high school counselors and career development facilitators with Spartanburg Community College.

We shared an inside look at the aggregates industry - from the essential role aggregates play in our daily lives to the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available throughout the industry.

The morning concluded with a quarry tour at Reeves Construction Company’s Blacksburg, where attendees experienced the operation firsthand. The tour sparked engaging discussions and thoughtful questions about the production process, industry innovations, and the many career pathways available within aggregates.

Investing in career awareness and workforce development is critical to the future of our industry, and we appreciate the opportunity to help educate those who guide the next generation of talent.

A special thank you to Sara Neil-Spencer with South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce and April Malone, M.E.d with Spartanburg Community College for allowing us to be a part of this special event.

And to Emily Talbert (Holbert) and Salley Lewis, our Education Committee Chair and Co-Chair, for sharing your time and expertise with this group and for always being willing to educate others about our incredible industry.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day, and their courage will never be forgotten. On this Memorial Day, the South Carolina Aggregates Association extends our deepest gratitude to the fallen heroes and to the families who carry their legacy forward.

May we remember them not only today, but always.
