She’s apparently choosing violence ⛈️⚡️and fixing to throw hands🌩️. Join me in keep a wary eye to the sky as the NWS has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Greenup Co. until 8pm this evening. Well folks, it’s once again Monday. Just a friendly reminder from your PIO, along with the caffeination make sure to include hydration. We’re in for another hot and humid summer day, be sure to add some water 💦 in there. Courtesy of Mother Nature you’ll probably be sweating in places ya ought not. Remember to take breaks, although we will respond with the med unit in case of heat related emergencies, we’d rather just see ya out and about and wave 👋🏻 a friendly “Hi”. Earlier today on behalf of the City of Greenup Fire Department, I had the privilege of attending the Firefighter Memorial Service at the KFA 2026 Conference. Ret. Lt. Cornett’s fire dept. & name were read aloud. As the bell was rang in his honor, his carnation was placed on the Kentucky State emblem along side of the other carnations that represented the losses of other Firefighters since the last conference. “Tools of Our Trade Thursday” - Time is the harbinger that out dates equipment and creates the pathway for new. When I first joined Greenup FD, one of my main goals was to preserve what I could find of its history. So much has been lost through the intervening years from 1890 when the FD was established. For example the Pike Pole, I don’t know when exactly it was taken “out of service” in favor of the fiberglass ones. It sat beside one of the bay doors to be able to reach up and unhook the automatic feature, so the bay door could be rolled up in the event of a power failure. I removed the hook & point to be sandblasted and hand sanded the wooden pole. I located actual “shellac” and the pole was given several coats. The Pike Pole now hangs with honor with modified fittings from old Engine 3 on the upstairs wall at the Fire Dept. along with a shellaced wooden ladder. Karen Belt, 799 - GFD-PIO
