Exhibit Opening:
People of the Book and the Storyboard: Contemporary Jewish Comics and Graphic Novels /
Jan. 27 - Mar. 11
The Verostko Center is kicking off the spring semester with an exhibition featuring a dozen projects by Jewish artists that visually recount stories from the Bible, Rabbinic writings, the Passover Haggadah, and personal biography (principally, first-person narratives from the Holocaust) in formats that engage readers of all ages. At a time when visual storytelling is experiencing renewed resonance, these works were selected for their ability to balance tradition with innovation. Visitors will be able to view printed selections from each of the books, while copies of the works on view will be available to peruse in a comfortable reading area within the space.
To open People of the Book and the Storyboard, the Center is pleased to welcome Rabbi Jamie Gibson, Rabbi Emeritus at Temple Sinai in Pittsburgh, and exhibiting artist and Saint Vincent College Professor of Visual Art, Ben Schachter who will discuss the works on view and explore the role of interpretative storytelling within Judaism. Join us for this in-person talk on Thursday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Center.
