Greensburg East Hempfield Lions Club

Greensburg East Hempfield Lions Club The Greensburg East Hempfield Lions are dedicated their geographical area in accordance with the Lion’s theme of “We Serve”. You can be a part of that service.

A recently merged group, the Greensburg Lions were charted over 60 years ago, while the East Hempfield club is just over 55. As resources, membership and finances struggled, the two clubs merged into a more vibrant group, with the resources to serve even better. A long history of activities have evolved over the decades, from pumpkin sales, a Big Ticket fund raiser, traditional broom sales and eve

n 5 K races. In recent years, the club has become more focused on serving in the community in new ways. We now work with the local school districts to provide eye care for students, recycle eye glasses and hearing aids in coordination with the Lions International and Westmoreland County Blind Association, and have reclaimed several gardens in the Greensburg community. A series of signs welcoming travelers to Greensburg have been installed with our assistance. The automatic doors on Greensburg City Hall were made possible by the Lions. And we continue to seek new ways to serve our community. One candle casts a dim light for a small area, but many candles, working together, can illuminate a vast space. That is the role of the Lions. Backed by Lions International, we are a part of a world wide community, one of the most recognized service groups on the planet. The Lions are celebrating their centennial in 2017, a one hundred year journey of service. Challenged by Helen Keller to be the “knights of the blind”, the Lions accepted the challenge and continue to serve.
