A federal court blocked the Trump administration from obtaining the private medical records of transgender minors who received care through Children’s National Hospital.

The case began after the Department of Justice sought records related to transgender youth receiving gender-affirming care. Families challenged the demand, arguing that deeply personal medical information should remain private.

In its ruling, the court concluded that the government’s request appeared to have “no purpose other than to intimidate and harass” and blocked access to the records.

No matter where you stand politically, most of us can agree that families deserve privacy when it comes to sensitive medical decisions. Parents should not have to worry that their child’s confidential medical information could become the subject of government scrutiny simply because of who their child is.

For the families involved, this ruling represents an important victory for privacy, dignity, and parental rights.

We’ll continue to follow developments in this case, but for today, many families are breathing a little easier. 🩷
