Joyce Carol, the founder of Hands for Jesus (HfJ) Christian School in Guaimaca, Honduras, celebrated her 90th birthday on July 22. HfJ helped Ms Joyce celebrate her birthday by streaming their birthday celebration with her. The school also celebrated its 28th anniversary during the same ceremony. One of the school’s co-directors, Ms. Marilu, met Ms. Joyce when her son became one of the initial five students at HfJ.

Ms. Suyapa and her husband Don Jose have been at the school for most of those 28 years also. Ms. Suyapa started working at the school 26 years ago and Don Jose started 24 years ago.

Ms. Telma, the school administrator and co-director, started working at HfJ in 2004—22 years ago.

Bonny and Jimmy Abbott began encouraging the school and finding sponsors for children in need around 2006.

God has greatly blessed the school over the years and it has grown to over 270 students. We pray that the staff, teachers, and students at HfJ continue to honor God in all they do.

Over the years, scholarships have been provided to many families in need so that their child could receive a Christian education while learning to speak English. Our charity—Hope and Help for Honduras—is currently sponsoring 44 students with half tuition, half tuition and books, or just books. Tuition has increased over the years at HfJ and many parents find it hard to pay the additional $10 - $20 a month necessary to keep their child at HfJ. Hope and Help is seeking 20 – 30 additional sponsors who can donate $10 to $20 a month to help meet that increase. If you can help, please reach out to Hope and Help or see the website at https://hopehelphonduras.org for more details on helping sponsor a child.

As the 2026 Honduran school year approaches, we are seeking new sponsors to help reach additional children in need. If you are interested in helping a child, please PM me or see our website: www.HopeHelpHonduras.org/sponsorship
Background: Eleven years ago, Bobby Marcum asked Tim and I to join the Greensburg Baptist team going to Honduras for a week. That’s when Bonny Abbott introduced us to the Hands for Jesus Christian School (HfJ) in Guaimaca, Honduras. There were 75 students in grades 1 – 6. Over the years, the school has grown to about 275 students in nursery – 11th grades. The school has recently started club activities and sports. The goal is to provide the students an opportunity to learn English so they can get better paying jobs to lift them out of poverty. But most importantly, they are presented with the gospel to give them the opportunity for everlasting security. Our focus has been helping the school, where possible, and finding sponsors for children in need so they can attend HfJ. We currently sponsor about 43 children. The students we help are mostly from single parent homes. The mothers want their children to attend a Christian school and receive an opportunity to better themselves. Over the last few years, we are seeing sponsored children (from our time there) graduate. It is uplifting to see them seeking additional education for degrees in education, computers, and medicine and to be generally good hearted graduates. -Sally
