As the 2026 Honduran school year approaches, we are seeking new sponsors to help reach additional children in need. If you are interested in helping a child, please PM me or see our website: www.HopeHelpHonduras.org/sponsorship
Background: Eleven years ago, Bobby Marcum asked Tim and I to join the Greensburg Baptist team going to Honduras for a week. That’s when Bonny Abbott introduced us to the Hands for Jesus Christian School (HfJ) in Guaimaca, Honduras. There were 75 students in grades 1 – 6. Over the years, the school has grown to about 275 students in nursery – 11th grades. The school has recently started club activities and sports. The goal is to provide the students an opportunity to learn English so they can get better paying jobs to lift them out of poverty. But most importantly, they are presented with the gospel to give them the opportunity for everlasting security. Our focus has been helping the school, where possible, and finding sponsors for children in need so they can attend HfJ. We currently sponsor about 43 children. The students we help are mostly from single parent homes. The mothers want their children to attend a Christian school and receive an opportunity to better themselves. Over the last few years, we are seeing sponsored children (from our time there) graduate. It is uplifting to see them seeking additional education for degrees in education, computers, and medicine and to be generally good hearted graduates. -Sally

Please pray for Hands for Jesus Christian School -- the staff, the teachers, the students, and the parents. This is a very stressful time in rural Honduras. Like us, they are dealing with Covid-19 issues (only without our country’s blessing of great health care); registration for the new school year (which ends next week); and distance-learning issues such as trouble with old laptops/computers and internet problems (even though they’re in the middle of their city limits).

The great news is that enrollment is back up at Hands for Jesus; just a little below where it was before Covid lockdowns. The teachers are now back to their regular salary (as long as enrollment remains steady). Our Board of Directors voted to use some non-sponsorship donations to get the internet up and running and for the purchase of Covid supplies such as masks and hand sanitizers—all to help the teachers transition to teaching virtually in their classrooms with computers. Can you imagine—they were using their personal phones last year. Last month, we shipped additional supplies (including several new computers) to help ease the situation there.

We ask for your prayers. Please pray the shipment of supplies will arrive without issue. Pray enrollment will remain steady and that students/families can afford the devices and internet plans needed for virtual classes. Pray for them to see God and trust Him during these times. Pray that God will raise up disciples from among the student body. And finally, remember that life is hard in rural Honduras—pray that God will guide, protect, and provide for them.
