Jaime Rivera was recently presented with the 2026 Robbins Family Award by the Rotary Club of Greensburg 3437 District 6580.

Named in honor of the Robbins family, the 2026 Robbins Family Award recognizes a spirit of service, friendship, and dedication that strengthens the Rotary community.

The award also celebrates the enduring legacy of the Robbins family, including Bill Robbins, Brian Robbins, and Jennifer Robbins Sturgis. Their continued involvement reflects the values this award was created to honor—fellowship, generosity, and meaningful service to others.

Rivera embodies those values in a deeply personal and inspiring way. Over the past several years, he has become more than a fellow Rotarian—he has become a trusted friend, a steady source of encouragement, and someone who can always be counted on. The presenter shared that Jaime has consistently offered support, kindness, and dependability whenever needed.

His dedication to inclusion has been especially meaningful. Time and again, Rivera has stepped forward as a partner and advocate—a true “right-hand man”—helping others feel welcomed, valued, and supported.

Accepting the honor, Rivera expressed sincere gratitude for the recognition and reflected on the friendships and sense of community he has found through Rotary. He acknowledged those who welcomed him into the organization and shared how much being part of Rotary has meant to him.

The award is a fitting tribute to Rivera’s warmth, loyalty, and service. As the 2026 Robbins Family Award recipient, he represents the very best of fellowship: lasting friendship, meaningful inclusion, and a commitment to showing up for others with an open heart.

Robbins receives Art Turner Award

Greensburg’s longest-tenured Rotarian, Bill Robbins, has been named the 2026 Art Turner Legacy Award recipient, recognizing a lifetime of quiet service, generosity, and dedication to The Rotary Club of Greensburg 3437 District 6580 and Rotary International.

During a recent year-end meeting, Rotary President Mike Sefton spoke warmly about Robbins, describing him as someone he has admired and looked up to for many years. He praised Robbins for consistently giving his time, treasures, and talents whenever the community called, often without seeking recognition.

“From downtown cleanups to archery tournaments and ballpark projects, Bill has always shown up with humility and a willing heart,” Sefton said.

Sefton’s remarks reflected that the honor represented more than years of service—it was a tribute to a man whose kindness, leadership, and steady commitment have made a lasting impact on both the club and the community.

William (Bill) H. Robbins III has been an active Rotarian since 1967, building a legacy of service that spans nearly six decades.

The Art Turner Legacy Award is named in honor of longtime Greensburg Rotarian and former Greensburg Community Schools superintendent Art Turner, whose example of service helped shape generations of local Rotary leadership.

The Mike Sefton era as president of The Rotary Club of Greensburg, 3437, District 6580, has come to an end as Rotary International prepares to begin its 2026-27 year on July 1. During the past year, Sefton guided the club with a commitment to Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self, helping lead the organization to recognition through several district awards.

At a recent club meeting, Mandy Jo Lohrum, Past District Governor and Past Club President, assumed the local leadership role for the first quarter of the new Rotary year and thanked Sefton for his dedicated service. As a token of appreciation, she presented him with several gifts, including a Rotary cap and a special baseball-themed item recognizing his enthusiasm and leadership in the club’s efforts to develop a baseball inclusion park.

Reflecting on his year as president, Sefton spoke about lessons learned from his years in farming and business. He recalled the many individuals who were always willing to step in and help with whatever needed to be done to keep things moving forward. Those experiences, he said, shaped his belief that leaders should never ask others to do a job they would not be willing to do themselves.

That philosophy has guided his service in Rotary. Sefton expressed gratitude to the many club members who consistently step forward to support meetings, programs, special events, and service projects. He recognized those who coordinate guest speakers, organize the annual Christmas meeting, assist with the Educator of the Year program, attend district meetings, prepare the meeting space, provide meals, and help ensure that each Monday gathering runs smoothly.

Sefton also emphasized the importance of Rotary’s impact on the community through projects that strengthen Greensburg and reflect the club’s commitment to service. He spoke proudly of initiatives such as community signage, basketball-related park improvements, and the continued progress toward the baseball inclusion park. His goal as president, he said, was simple: “To do what is right for the community while supporting Rotary’s larger mission across the district and around the world.”

As he introduced Lohrum as the club’s new president, Sefton expressed confidence that Rotary would remain in capable hands. Lohrum shared that she will serve through the end of September, with additional members assuming leadership responsibilities during the following quarters. She will then return to complete the final quarter, from April through June, helping guide the club through the coming year.

Lohrum also noted that the club will begin seeking its next president for the following Rotary year and encouraged members to continue offering their strong support, particularly as Greensburg Rotarian Linda Simmons prepares to serve as District 6580 Governor.

Looking ahead, Lohrum announced that the club has been approved for a district grant to support Mama Cleo’s House in Guadalajara, Mexico. The international service project will help improve the boys’ home through the construction of an enclosed kitchen and the purchase of needed kitchen equipment and supplies. She explained that the effort will be coordinated with a local Rotary club to ensure the project is completed responsibly and documented through regular updates and photographs.

She also encouraged members to continue bringing forward ideas for local service opportunities, emphasizing that the board of directors is always seeking meaningful ways to serve the community. While Rotary’s reach extends around the world through initiatives such as polio eradication and the Guadalajara kitchen project, the club remains deeply committed to serving Greensburg and strengthening the community its members proudly call home.

The Rotary Club of Greensburg 3437 extends its sincere gratitude to Mike Sefton for his untiring efforts, boundless enthusiasm, and steadfast dedication to Service Above Self.

Greensburg Rotary Club Installs Metal Basketball Tree at County Park

GREENSBURG, Ind. — The Rotary Club of Greensburg 3437 District 6580 recently completed the installation of a unique metal basketball tree at the Decatur County Park, creating a new recreational feature designed to encourage outdoor activity, family engagement, and community enjoyment. It is believed to be the first basketball tree of its kind in Southeast Indiana.

This project is the result of a 2025-26 matching grant provided by Rotary International District Foundation, totaling almost $6,000.

The custom metal structure features multiple basketball hoops arranged in a tree-like design, offering visitors of all ages a fun and creative way to practice shooting skills while enjoying time outdoors.

Various Rotary members gathered to assist with planning, installation, and final placement of the project, continuing the club’s longstanding commitment to community service and local improvement initiatives. Rotarian Steve Freeman and Lori Feldbauer spearheaded the project. Rotarians Rob DeHoff, Larry Moore, and Beverly Moore helped with the installation.

“This project reflects Rotary’s mission of creating lasting, positive impact in our community,” said Project Chair Steve Freeman. “We wanted to provide something that would be both interactive and enjoyable for families visiting the park.”

The basketball tree is intended to serve as an accessible attraction that promotes recreation, healthy activity, and community connection throughout the year.

Club members expressed appreciation to Decatur County officials, park personnel, volunteers, and community partners who supported the effort and helped bring the project to completion.

Residents are encouraged to visit the county park and experience the new addition.
