My Shorkie with the Glass Eye
By Shelley D Salazar
Beneath the Kentucky sun, where the dew-kissed grasses gleam,
Lives my four-year-old Shorkie, a spark in a waking dream.
A tiny bundle of fur, with a heart that knows no bounds,His single glass eye glints, where a story profound resounds.
Adopted he came to us, a soul so brave and small,
A Shih Tzu-Yorkie mix, answering love’s tender call.
One eye of warmest brown, alive with mischief’s play,
The other, a crafted orb, reflects the light of day.
Oh, little Shorkie mine, with your patchwork coat of glee, You scamper through the meadow, wild as a spirit free. The squirrels pause their chatter, the birds tilt wings to see, This pint-sized King of courage, who dances just for me.
Your glass eye tells a tale, of trials you’ve overcome, A badge of quiet valor, beneath the morning sun.
It sparkles like a jewel, a window to your soul,
A testament to wholeness, where love has made you whole.
When we first brought you home, to our country haven green,
You bounded with our Pyrenes, a tiny, fearless King.
Alexander the Anatolian Shepherd watches,
Bubba sighs with lazy grace,
But you, my glass-eyed wonder, set the rhythm of this place.
You leap where deer once darted, you bark at fleeting breeze,
Your single gaze unwavering, your heart so keen to please.
The crystal dew, the sunrise, they frame your joyful prance,
Each step a small defiance, each wag a victory dance.
Recently you’ve blessed our mornings, with chirps and playful yips,
Chasing shadows, stealing socks, and nuzzling with soft lips.
No flaw could dim your spirit, no scar could slow your stride,
My Shorkie with the glass eye, you’re love personified.
At night, beneath the starlight, you curl up in your bed,
Your warmth a quiet promise, your trust my greatest pride.
I whisper thanks to heaven, for the gift of you, so rare,
A four-year-old adopted soul, with a glass-eyed, fearless stare.
So here’s to you, my Shorkie, my jewel of boundless cheer,
With one eye bright, one eye of glass,
you make my heart draw near.
In this Kentucky haven, where love and nature blend,
You’re my small, eternal spark,
my companion without end.
