As we conclude this year’s Black History Month, it is important that we continue to honor, teach and pay tribute to Black Americans who have left an indelible mark on our society for generations throughout the year.

Every February, LEAP Forward, Inc. serves to teach students and adults alike about these important stories through the “African American Art and History Exhibit”.

In 2026, these exhibits were showcased at more than a half dozen high schools across Southern Maryland and the greater Washington, D.C. region. This year also featured an exhibit at the National 2026 Black Engineers of the Year Awards (BEYA) Conference, held in Baltimore.

Take a look at how the exhibits have changed over the years while captivating the minds of learners of all ages!

This month, and all year long, we honor the legacy of Black Americans that have shaped our past, present and future.

On this date in 1960, the first of a series of nonviolent protests would take shape in Greensboro, North Carolina. At its forefront were four students from North Carolina A&T State University - the Greensboro Four - who began a peaceful sit-in protest at a Woolworth’s counter. From February 1, 1960 to July 1960, additional sit-in protests garnered national attention, and would ultimately contribute significantly to the efforts to bring about desegregation nationally.

In November 2017, LEAP Forward, Inc. took students to Greensboro to visit the site of these sit-ins. On North Carolina A&T State University’s campus, a monument was erected to commemorate the legacy and vision of the Greensboro Four, while also serving to inspire future generations.

Today, we honor the lives and the legacies of the Greensboro Four - David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, Jr. (Jibreel Khazan) and Joseph McNeil.
