Public Art Endowment of Greensboro

Public Art Endowment of Greensboro The Public Art Endowment was created to preserve and extend our sense of community through the development of new community assets.

https://cfgg.org/initiatives/public-art-endowment/ The Public Art Endowment was established by a lead gift from the law firm of Schell Bray Aycock Abel and Livingston in honor of the firm’s 20th anniversary. Under the leadership of a Steering Committee made up of Endowment Trustees and chaired by Adair Phifer Armfield, this permanent fund is dedicated to the creation of new community assets. It is

the only fund of its kind in the area and benefits from strong institutional relationships with other arts organizations, including Weatherspoon Art Museum, Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art and the United Arts Council. Full Trustees give gifts of $25,000 or more while Group Trustees join with others to make an aggregate gift of $25,000. This typically translates into a total commitment of $5,000 per couple or individual. Pledges are payable over 5 years and confer permanent Trustee status. Trustees are involved in all aspects of the Endowment including selection of art works and development of related programming, as well as advocacy within the greater community for the Endowment and its mission. Trustees are supported in their work by the Art Selection Committee, made up of arts professionals from around the country and chaired by Nancy Doll, director of Weatherspoon Art Museum. The Public Art Endowment has an initial goal of $2 million. Learn more at:

This year, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro’s Annual Meeting commemorated the 10th anniversary of ‘Where We Met’, Janet Echelman’s iconic aerial sculpture in LeBauer Park and one of Greensboro’s most treasured public art installations. Beneath the piece, CFGG hosted an intimate reception and book signing with the artist for her new book, ‘Radical Softness: The Responsive Art of Janet Echelman’.

As we marked this milestone anniversary, the setting served as a beautiful reminder of the connections that strengthen our community and bring us together year after year.

Action shots from the Public Art Endowment of Greensboro (PAE) Annual Meeting in March. It was a wonderful evening of reflecting on all that 2025 held for PAE and a meaningful opportunity to connect with this incredible community.

This past year marked significant growth for PAE. The organization introduced two new adjunct committees — the Project Idea Committee and the Young Professionals Committee — creating new pathways for engagement and leadership. It also established a $2,500 entry point for new Trustees, expanding access and helping to ensure the long-term sustainability of this important work.

These milestones reflect a shared commitment to strengthening public art across our community. Learn more about this initiative at CFGG.ORG/PAE
