Yesterday, May 19th, marked my first full year as Volunteer Coordinator 🥹💚

It’s honestly hard to put into words what this year has meant to me. This role was something I worked toward for years, and getting the opportunity to serve both our animals and volunteers in this capacity has been incredibly rewarding, challenging, humbling, and inspiring all at once.

Over the last year, we’ve celebrated adoptions, supported animals through difficult moments, welcomed new volunteers, built new ideas/programs, strengthened communication, and continued working toward creating a positive and supportive environment for both people and pets. None of that would be possible without the support, compassion, and passion of the incredible team and community behind it all.

To our volunteers: thank you for showing up- even on the hard days. Thank you for your compassion, patience, dedication, advocacy, and willingness to learn and grow alongside us. The impact you make matters more than you know.

To my coworkers and leadership: thank you for your support, guidance, patience, and for trusting me in this role as I continue learning and growing into it.

And to the animals: thank you for reminding all of us why this work matters so deeply.

I still have so much I want to improve, learn, and accomplish, but I’m incredibly grateful for how far this program- and I personally- have come over the last year. Here’s to continuing to grow, advocate, and make a difference together 🐾 ❤️

Does this sound like you?
-You’ve got some free time during the weekdays
-You enjoy getting outside or staying active
-You love dogs (or just need more of them in your life)

We’re looking for weekday dog walkers to help our shelter pups get the exercise, enrichment, and love they deserve 🐾
Become a Guilford County Animal Services Volunteer! We look forward to seeing you around the shelter! 🐶💙

Play dates! 🐾 ♥️
This is your reminder that joy can look like zoomies, floppy ears, and zero personal space 😄🐕
Our dogs may be waiting for homes, but they don’t stop being dogs in the meantime, and we’re so grateful we get to give them moments like this.

Sometimes the best enrichment is a sunny day, a wagging tail, and a friend who speaks your language 🐾
These pups spend their days waiting for a family, but moments like this remind us they still know how to live in the joy and comfort of others.
Playgroups aren’t just fun—they build confidence, friendships, and hope. 💙
Big shout out to the staff and volunteers for making this possible.

We strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.

Come to Guilford County Animal Services to meet your new best friend between 12pm and 4pm any day except Tuesday!

Chaos to Calm- the power of Enrichment.
One challenge shelter’s face is kennel stress. If you’ve ever stepped foot into a shelter, one of the first things you’ll likely notice is barking. It can be heard from the outside of the building sometimes. It’s loud, it’s stressful, and can be quite overwhelming, not only for you, but for the animals themselves. In-kennel enrichment is just one of the ways we can help. ❤️🐾
Today the pups were enjoying BullySticks

FOSTER HEROES NEEDED! 🚨

From November 19th–23rd, we will be making repairs in our Dog Adoption 3 area (plus a few kennels throughout the shelter). While we get these spaces fixed up, some of our pups need a short-term place to crash — just through the weekend!

🐶 A few cozy days in a home instead of a kennel can make all the difference.
🏡 We’ll match you with a dog that fits your home and provide everything you need.
💛 You’ll be helping our team make important improvements and giving a shelter pet a much-needed break.

🌙 ✨ Night time at the shelter

After a busy day the pups lay down and dream of a life where they wake up to a family who loves and cherishes them. Adopting gives homeless pets a second chance, and with support from our community, staff, fosters, and volunteers we can help their dreams come true 🐾❤️
Come visit us at Guilford County Animal Services and adopt your new best friend.
