This year, to celebrate Black History Month, Delia's Pantry is honored to acknowledge and celebrate the excellence of African American women and men, right here in Greensboro, NC, making a difference in being a solution to home and food insecurity. One of the greatest things you can do in life is to uplift and empower others! Our 1st spotlight is: The Green Team Helping Hands, Inc

The Green Team Helping Hands, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is an active front line advocate for the homeless and hungry. Currently, Greensboro, NC holds the number ONE spot in the nation for the largest food shortage. The Green Team accommodates families and homeless individuals with meals, proper clothing, and basic toiletries needed on a day-to-day basis. We started out feeding 18 people each week; today, we are feeding over 300 men, women and children weekly! Without organizations like The Green Team, people would have a harder time feeding their families. Many organizations nationwide feed the homeless, but The Green Team is unique. The Green Team does not just care about the homeless; we call them our friends, our friends in need. On occasion, we raise funds for pizza dinners and grooming sessions. We are never late and we enjoy taking selfies with everyone we come across to show them just how much we really care.

❄️ We are grateful for serving hearts that keep the wellbeing of others top of mind; especially our scholars. Over the last couple of weeks, we've had donations from our local 💙💛Sigma Gamma Rho💙💛 alumnae chapter, as well as a generous donation of bagged oranges from a local donor. These donations were right on time as we prepared bags for what will be an extended school break due to winter storm weather. To each individual who purchased, packed, and/or delivered, THANK YOU 😊

▶️ Addressing childhood food insecurity was significantly important to Dr. King, so much so, that he called for others to fight for it with just as much fervor as they did many other social justice issues. As we prepare ourselves for a day of service this year in honor of Dr. King's legacy, we ask that you consider supporting Delia's Pantry as we work together to provide food for our students and their families in need. As we will be packing food to accommodate the out of school dates from January 16th to January 19th, we kindly ask for your support in replenishing our supply in the New Year. Thank you ❤️

We hope that you have been enjoying this season of rest and reflection. As many are taking self inventory on how to be kinder to themselves and others, we ask that you would consider giving kindness through the gift of non perishable food for our scholars in need of food security. We are always in need of:

- Pop Top (only) canned goods

- Individually wrapped breakfast and snack items (Oatmeal/grit packets, pop tarts, mini cereal boxes, chips, fruit snacks/cups, etc.)

- Individual lunch items (tuna fish, mac and cheese cups, beanies and weanies, etc.)

- Cases of water, juice pouches and drink powder packets

This isn't an exhaustive list, but simply serves as a point of reference for ideas 😊

Happy Saturday! Thank you to those who have continued to give past our final packing of 2025 this past week. As we shared in our recap post, in addition to the Winter Break items, we gave away the very last of what was left over from our normal, weekly packing. The storage totes and wire shelving are completely empty. When we return in January, we will be restocking the pantry, and every donation will be used to support that. Thank you and Happy Holiday season to all!

If you plan to ship directly to the school, we ask that you wait until after the children have returned, as there will be no one at the school to receive items before then.

At the end of the 2024-2025 school year, an in depth assessment was done. We asked ourselves questions like, "What worked?" "What didn't work?" "What can be improved for the upcoming year?" And in doing so, we realized that just about ALL of our scholars have siblings; older and younger. To add, not all of their siblings' schools had a backpack program, or a pantry in general. So while our primary focus remains providing food for our scholars, our secondary focus became providing "family style" options.

We're so excited to offer this new way of giving; and we've started with our Winter Break food boxes. We'll give you a peek into our boxes tomorrow as we pack for 30 scholars and their families for 20 days. Stay tuned 😀

Boxes have been ordered. First bulk food order has been placed for delivery. Winter Break '25 is here folks!! Time didn't wait, and guess what? Serving won't either. This is the week we pack 30 boxes of a 20 day supply of food for our Scholars who need it the most! Thank you to all who have contributed. There is still a small window of time left if you haven't, but want to. Check out the flyer for details. The last day to give is tomorrow 😊

In stride with our mission, Delia's Pantry has been able to provide food kits for our families in greatest need for the weekend; including the extra, unexpected "Snow Day" happening tomorrow. Each week, the contents of the weekend food bags slightly change; not in quality, but according to items purchased and donations. Every bag is not packed with the exact same items, but each bag is packed with all the treats and goodies we know the kids will love. Here is a breakdown of our most common items. We are stocking up on our juice supply to ensure we have enough for Winter break. We hope that you'd consider partnering with Delia's Pantry to keep burdens eased, bellies happy, and faces smiling!
