Project Horseshoe Farm Greensboro Working together to build a stronger community, to support better lives for our vulnerable members

We believe that grassroots organizations led by community based service leaders are important to providing leadership, structure, and support to help communities more effectively come together to support our vulnerable members. We believe that by working together and sharing responsibility for helping the vulnerable among us, we can create stronger communities and better places to live. Finally, w

e believe that growing needs and rapid changes in healthcare and education call for new approaches to and a resolved focus on developing and preparing needed community-based service leaders for tomorrow’s communities. Project Horseshoe Farm is grateful that since 2007 we have been part of a community wide effort to put these ideas into action here in Greensboro, Alabama.

Everyone, say hi to Jasmine Sampson! Coming from Aiken, South Carolina, the move to Greensboro felt like another place she could call home. She graduated from Clemson University, where she majored in Health Science, and she will be attending medical school in the fall. Now that summer has arrived, she’s a counselor for incoming 4th graders in our Summer Youth Program. She enjoys helping prepare the students for a successful school year while having fun. On Wednesdays, she’s at the Hale County Extension Office, where she has valued her time supporting the office’s partners, clients, and staff.

Outside of Horseshoe, she’s catching up on her favorite TV shows, making something delicious, or listening to music. Jasmine’s genuine curiosity about others and love of bringing people together shape how she serves and connects with the community. We are extremely grateful to have her this year!

Introducing CLIMB Academy! 🩺

Community Leaders in Medicine & Beyond (CLIMB) is an experiential learning program for Greensboro High School students interested in healthcare, the medical sciences and other service-driven careers after highschool.

Throughout the year, students participate in mentorship, leadership development, community service, and hands-on learning experiences. They build relationships with residents at Diversicare of Greensboro, mentor kindergarteners at Greensboro Elementary School, and prepare and deliver meals to community members through a Meals-Out program. Students also participate in community recreation activities such as pickleball and ultimate frisbee.

CLIMB students take part in professional development workshops, ACT prep, and career-focused programming at the Hale County Hospital Experiential Learning Center. Throughout the year, they learn from medical students, physician assistant students, and healthcare professionals through interactive activities and mentorship. They also learn directly from local healthcare professionals and have visited the University of Alabama at Birmingham to further explore educational and career pathways.

The program helps students develop the skills to lead with compassion, purpose, and impact to become citizen-service leaders in their future careers. If you are interested in applying for CLIMB Academy this summer or would like to know more about the program, please contact us at [email protected].

Everyone, say hey to Patty Diaz! Although small‑town life is very different from her hometown of Miami, Florida, Patty has found her groove. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Cognitive Neuroscience and Anthropology: Global Health & Environment, and will be attending medical school! During the week, Patty co‑leads our high school youth program, known as Community Leaders in Medicine & Beyond (CLIMB). Patty’s passion and determination make her a fantastic role model for our youth, and she is so grateful to be a part of CLIMB. On Wednesdays, she volunteers with the local high school, supporting students with professional development and career preparation. Outside of Horseshoe, you can catch her singing the lyrics to almost every song or baking. The energy Patty brings naturally lifts everyone’s spirits. This year wouldn’t be the same without her!
