Type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease disproportionately affect communities of color, yet Black Americans are often underrepresented in research. That gap makes it harder to develop prevention strategies that truly work for us.

The BA-UMAP Study is changing that by centering Black voices, experiences, and health histories to better understand memory and aging.

Communities of color experience higher rates of Type 2 diabetes, which is also linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss later in life. Understanding these connections is critical to protecting our long-term brain health.

The Black American United Memory and Aging Project (BA-UMAP) is working to understand how health conditions like diabetes affect memory and aging in Black communities.

👥 If you are 55+ and identify as Black, you may be eligible to participate and help shape the future of brain health research.

Let’s honor her story and the legacies of others by advocating for equity in health and medicine. Together, we can continue their mission for a healthier future. 💙
