82 years ago tonight (already taking place France time) the 30th was locked in the start of the last
major counterattack the Germans were able to mass in France. The 30th, having just relieved the 1st Infantry Division in Mortain was expecting a quiet area of the line. The German army changed that and around midnight attacked in and around Mortain with a much more superior force, starting the Battle of Mortain.

This battle would be one for the history and record books. The forces against each other and the fight both sides put up is amazing to hear about and study. It resulted in the Germans pushed out of Normandy and helped seal the liberation of France just 2 weeks after the battle. In March of 2020 the 30th Infantry Division was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for Mortain (and the surrounding area and towns).

Almost 40 members of the association will spend 3 days in and around Mortain in just about 1 month!

Attention attention attention:

Book your hotels rooms NOW before the rate goes up. The LAST day to book with our group rate is SUNDAY. After that you can expect the rate to go WAY up because they will release the rooms. The hotel says they have less than 30 rooms left due to a 5 game homestand of the Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball team that’s during our reunion. They expect them to all be sold out this weekend, no later than Monday.

Please book your room now, we cannot guarantee you any space otherwise!
