Last week, our Environmental Education and Conservation Coordinator, Megan Gentry, started the NC Environmental Education Certification! As part of the certification, she must attend instructional workshops and outdoor environmental education experiences. 🌿

Yesterday, she was able to attend the Geology in NC Workshop hosted by Rowan Soil and Water Conservation District, the NC Geological Survey, Vulcan Materials Company, and Rowan Museums. Thank you to all of the hosts! It was a wonderful workshop that focused on why minerals/rocks are so important and the geological history of NC.

Part of the workshop was touring the Vulcan Quarry and Historic Gold Hill! They gave out lots of resources that can be brought back and shared with educators in Guilford County.

Workshops like these not only help provide resources to the Guilford SWCD educational program, but they also allow our educator to form meaningful connections with other educators from around the State!

Our team had a wonderful time volunteering at the N.C. Soil & Water Conservation booth at the N.C. State Fair last night! 🎡

Make sure to check out this area if you’re heading to the State Fair this year! There’s trivia, prizes, and a fun game where you can learn all about soil conservation! You can find it in the Forestry area by Gate 7. 🌲
