🇺🇸 What an incredible piece of Revolutionary history — with a Greensboro connection! 🇺🇸
The NSDAR Americana Collection has received a remarkable new treasure: the 1775 Captain’s Commission of Revolutionary War Patriot Samuel Ward Jr., signed by none other than John Hancock!

Samuel Ward Jr. was only 19 years old when he was commissioned as a Captain in the Rhode Island militia. He later participated in the attack on Quebec, was captured by the British, returned to military service after his release, and ultimately rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

And here is the part that makes this story especially interesting to those of us in Greensboro, North Carolina: this historic document was loaned to the Greensboro Historical Museum in 1977! Loaned by the Ward Family. Guilford Battle Member Tanya Ward Feagins and husband David commissioned it to NSDAR.

Now, as we commemorate America’s 250th Anniversary, this extraordinary document has found a permanent home in the NSDAR Americana Collection, where it can help preserve and tell the story of the men and women who helped create our nation.

🇺🇸 On This Day in 1901 🇺🇸
On September 5, 1901, the Guilford Battle Chapter was organized at the home of our founding Regent, Addie Van Noppen.
Today, we proudly celebrate 125 years of friendship, service, and dedication to the enduring mission of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: We look forward to February when we received our "official" recognition from National as a Chapter 125 years ago. (Feb 1902)

Oak Ridge Military Academy was honored to welcome members of the Daughters of the American Revolution to Maple Glade for a special luncheon.

Guests enjoyed fellowship and a presentation from Mrs. Wilson, who shared stories from ORMA’s long and remarkable history, drawn from her upcoming book, *The Ridge*.

🏛️ An Afternoon of History, Preservation & Fellowship
The Guilford Battle Chapter, NSDAR, was honored to be welcomed by Oak Ridge Military Academy for a gracious luncheon and historic home tour of Maple Glade House, one of North Carolina’s treasured historic properties located on the Academy’s beautiful campus.
Our sincere appreciation goes to Caroline Ruch, Historic Preservation Chair, Charlene Wilson, and the entire Historic Preservation team for organizing such a memorable afternoon. Their dedication to preserving and sharing our state’s rich heritage was evident throughout this special event.
Following a delightful luncheon, guests enjoyed an engaging presentation and walking tour of Maple Glade led by Guilford Battle daughter Charlene Wilson. Through her knowledge and storytelling, Charlene brought the history, architecture, and remarkable stories of this historic home to life, reminding us of the importance of preserving these places for generations to come.
The afternoon was a wonderful reflection of the DAR commitment to Historic Preservation, Education, and honoring the people and places that have shaped our American story.
Thank you to Oak Ridge Military Academy for your gracious hospitality and to all who made this beautiful afternoon possible.
