Even in times of long darkness, the promise remains in the marrow of the seed.

Rest in peace, Wendell Berry, who taught us that everything we need is already here.

Horseback on Sunday morning,
harvest over, we taste persimmon
and wild grape, sharp sweet
of summer’s end. In time’s maze
over fall fields, we name names
that rest on graves. We open
a persimmon seed to find the treethat stands in promise,
pale, in the seed’s marrow.
Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,as in love or sleep, holdsthem to their way, clearin the ancient faith: what we needis here. And we pray, notfor new earth or heaven, but to bequiet in heart, and in eye, clear. What we need is here.

The poem “Wild Geese”, From Selected Poems of Wendell Berry.

Need a book, find a book, borrow a book, lend a book, share a book!

As an extension of our little Kinward Library at the Center, we now have a mobile community micro-library at the 1000 entrance at Revolution Mill.

How do you deal with conflict, at home, with friends, at work, and in the wider world?

Do you behave more like a jackal or more like a doe?

We live in a polarized environment in which confrontation or withdrawal seem to be the only options.

This 6-week course, led by the Rev. Tricia de Beer, takes the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) developed by Marshall Rosenberg as we learn to become responsive, not reactive, in conflictual situations. We will discover more options so that we can mean what we say, and say what we mean.

The course runs on Wednesdays from October 7 until November 11 at 6-8pm here at the Kinward Center at Revolution Mill.

The cost is $75 (with scholarships available).

Sign up and registration can be found at the link here:

Please share this important program.

Our culture teaches us that in conflict, our choices are to flee or fight. This course opens up an alternative for compassionate engagement. It is not just a communication strategy but a way of being, a spirituality of authentic, self-giving love.

We hope you can join us in October.

COME BACK TO YOURSELF

Rediscover a deeper connection with yourself, others, and the Divine through a 25-week journey of practice, community, and transformation.

Perhaps you’re feeling it…

Life feels full, but something feels missing.

You’ve been carrying responsibilities for work, family, community, or others, yet somewhere along the way you’ve lost touch with yourself.

Maybe your faith feels more like an open conversation than a set of fixed answers right now.

Maybe you’re longing for deeper friendships.

Maybe you’re tired of living at the speed of headlines, notifications, and endless obligations.

Or perhaps you simply sense that there is more life available than the one you’re currently living.

Beneath these experiences is often a quieter reality: we’ve become disconnected; from ourselves, from one another, from the sacred, or from the life we most deeply long to live.

If any of this resonates, Rooted Wisdom may be for you.

Rooted Wisdom | $850
(25) Mondays: Sep 14 - Nov 30, 2026 + Jan 25 - Apr 26, 2027, 6-8pm, on-site
Location: 1000 Revolution Mill Drive, Greensboro, NC

An 8-month program designed for individuals seeking to deepen their awareness of the Divine, question assumed beliefs, access inner wisdom, and engage spiritual practices for living from a grounded and authentic sense of self in a fast-paced and challenging world. This experiential learning community will explore prophetic, interdisciplinary voices through a variety of media and discern where their unique belovedness is called to greater purpose.

Rooted Wisdom unfolds slowly through shared practice, reflection, conversation, and action. Week by week, relationships deepen. Trust grows. New ways of seeing become new ways of living.

Scholarships and payment plans are available (see scholarship form at checkout).
Please don’t let cost prevent you from participating. Financial assistance is available because we believe these teachings should be accessible to everyone.

Hi Friends!

The world is shifting rapidly, and finding a space to pause, reflect, and refuel your heart and mind is more important than ever. At kinward, we are committed to being that center of calm and connection for our community.

Lowering the Barrier to Connection

To ensure everyone can access our programs during these collective challenges, we are continuing our significantly reduced pricing this Fall. By optimizing our budget and utilizing reserves—while still fully compensating our incredible facilitators—we are thrilled to offer these accessible rates once again:

Coursework: Reduced from $250 to $75
Workshops: Reduced from $80 to $15

Because of this shift, nearly 450 people joined us this past Spring to tend to their personal and spiritual health. Our community is made up of parents, teachers, leaders, and neighbors—the ones others lean on—who chose to show up for themselves so they can continue to show up for others.

We invite you to join us for our upcoming Fall semester courses and workshops, featuring the launch of Kinward Unplugged—a new Tuesday evening series beginning in September.

Bring a Friend: Register for yourself and invite someone else to experience it with you.

Pay it Forward: Consider giving to the scholarship fund at checkout to help keep kinward accessible for everyone.

At kinward, it means celebrating exactly who you are. It means freedom, acceptance, and belonging. More than anything, it means ensuring our doors and hearts are always an open, safe, and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community—this month and every single day.

"I began this journey entirely on a whim." ✨

As we close out this season, we’ve been reflecting on Mary O.’s journey through our Rooted Wisdom program.

Mary almost didn't join because of the cost—until a scholarship changed everything. Her experience went from a "whim" to one of the hardest, most rewarding chapters of her life, completely transforming her work as a grief counselor.

"Much grief, pain, and shame were unearthed. I almost threw in the towel after only a couple weeks in. I'm grateful I chose to persist. It allowed me to step into a more expansive version of myself... I know with exquisite certainty now that 'the deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.'"

Because of the impact it had on her life, Mary is now a monthly donor, ensuring the next person can walk through that same door.

Stories like Mary's are exactly why we do this. Every gift to Kinward creates the conditions for someone to show up, go deep, and leave changed. That is the ripple effect.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming a monthly sustainer, there is still time to join us before the season ends.

"The world is so good at making me feel like I’m not good enough... Kinward has shown me that my truth is worth hearing."

When we asked Julie what the Kinward community has meant to her, she didn't reach for polished words. She just told the truth—and she teared up saying it. For Julie, this isn't abstract. It’s the difference between moving through the world guarded and finally getting to be herself.

That is what your support makes possible.

Kinward is a nonprofit sustained by people who believe this kind of work is worth sustaining. This year, we took a big step: we reduced our prices and continued honoring every single scholarship request. Cost should never stand between someone and this space.

But that commitment only holds because our community chooses to give.

The Kinward Giving Collective is a growing community of donors holding this work steady. This month, we're focusing on growing the circle of monthly givers within that community. Every gift, at any size, creates a ripple that reaches further than we can always see.

If you feel invited to join them, we'd be honored to have you.
