Children of Vietnam

Children of Vietnam Brightening each child’s future remains our focus today. We look at the whole child to tackle the root causes of poverty.

Children of Vietnam lifts children out of poverty by eliminating barriers to fulfilling their potential through wraparound services that focus on one child, one family, one community at a time. Children of Vietnam (COV) began in 1998 with two friends, one from Vietnam and the other from America, who saw children living in poverty and decided to take action. Ben Wilson and Luong Thi Huong rode a sc

ooter through the streets of Da Nang and into the countryside, bringing aid to children and their families — food, shelter, medicine, and clothing — anything and everything a child might need. We wrap multiple services around each child to address their many basic needs. Our wraparound approach empowers children to overcome barriers and strive for a life beyond poverty. From the beginning, Ben and Huong believed in creating partnerships with the communities, finding the greatest needs, delivering aid quickly, and working to provide the support that sustained growth. These principles continue to guide us in our daily operations. We have a clear vision: a Vietnam where all children flourish, reach their full potential, and contribute positively to society. We work towards our vision through five Initiatives:

Helping Children with Disabilities

Educating for the Future

Keeping Children Nourished

Delivering Clean Water and Sanitation

Empowering Single Mothers

For many children in remote communities, access to books is only the first step their learning journeys. Without opportunities to explore, discuss, and connect with what they read, developing a love of learning can be difficult.

📚Through the A Lua Library, COV provides books, computers, equipment, and ongoing support while creating activities that make reading engaging and meaningful. On May 31, 12 children joined a reading session filled with stories, games, imagination, and conversation. By the end of the day, every child was actively participating, including those who had been too shy to speak up at the start.

Because a library is more than a room full of books. It is a place where curiosity grows, confidence develops, and new possibilities begin.
With your support, we can continue creating opportunities for children to discover the joy of reading and unlock their potential.

Not every child grows up believing that effort will lead to opportunity. For many children facing hardship, setbacks can feel familiar. When challenges come one after another, it is easy to lose confidence, avoid risks, or give up before reaching the finish line.

💓Every child deserves the opportunity to build not only knowledge but also the confidence and resilience to face challenges.

Through a recent Perseverance and Responsibility Workshop, Children of Vietnam supported 48 students from Nguyen Thi Dinh, Nguyen Thien Thuat, and Nguyen Van Linh schools in developing these essential life skills.

Through team challenges and problem-solving activities, students learned how their choices affect both themselves and others while practicing perseverance, adaptability, and responsibility. By the end of the workshop, many showed greater confidence, stronger teamwork, and a deeper sense of personal responsibility, small but meaningful steps toward navigating future challenges.

💙 With your support, more children can access opportunities to build the confidence, resilience, and life skills they need to shape their futures: https://childrenofvietnam.org/donate/

Many children and families in Vietnam face multidimensional challenges that cannot be solved by one person alone. That is why Children of Vietnam invests in young people who are ready to be part of the solution.

🌱Recently, 16 Bright Scholars volunteered at ChildCare Vietnam (CCV), bringing joy, creativity, and care to children through a day of service. For students like Tam, giving back is more than an activity. It is a chance to make a positive impact in their community.

Through scholarships, mentorship, and volunteer opportunities, COV helps students gain not only an education but also the leadership, confidence, and compassion needed to create lasting change.

🌱When you support a Bright Scholar, you are not only helping a student stay in school. You are helping develop a future changemaker whose impact can reach countless others.

How far can a book take a child? 📚

Far enough that one day, he returns carrying books for children who see themselves in him.

Years ago, Nam Harrison was adopted from Vietnam as a baby. Today, he is helping create opportunities for children in a remote mountain community in Tay Giang, where his story first began.

Together with his family and Children of Vietnam, he has helped build a school, improve access to clean water, and most recently open a library and computer lab for local children.

Because when children are given the chance to learn, dream, and grow, there is no limit to how far they can go.

“I was very happy to join today’s activities and meet students from other schools. Everyone played with so much energy, and I made many new friends today." - Bao Han, 8th grade student, Nguyen Van Linh school.

Summertime means: games, laughter, and new friendships.

To kick off the season, COV organized its first Sport Games Day for 56 students in the Study Steps program from Nguyen Van Linh, Nguyen Thien Thuat, and Nguyen Thi Dinh secondary schools.

The day combined health check-ups with exciting team games, creating a space for students to move, connect, and have fun together. From cheering teammates on to making new friends across schools, the energy and excitement filled the whole day.

Thousands of schools in remote and mountainous areas of Vietnam are still lacking safe drinking water.

In just April, COV installed 15 water filtration systems across preschools, primary schools, secondary schools, and high schools in Da Nang and Quang Ngai.
These systems bring more than clean water. They help create safer classrooms, healthier daily routines, and better conditions for children to learn and grow.
Safe water should not depend on where a child is born.

Join us in bringing clean water to more schools and communities: https://childrenofvietnam.org/donate/

For families raising children with disabilities, the challenges can feel isolating. Financial pressure, endless caregiving, and the search for the right support often leave parents exhausted and navigating it alone.

But care is strongest when it’s shared. Parents and caregivers already hold the deepest knowledge of their children’s needs. The best support grows from within the community itself.

That’s why, through COV’s Hope System of Care, we help create spaces where caregivers can come together to exchange what they’ve learned. Recently, 37 parents joined our “Sharing Knowledge from Previous Trainings” session. It wasn’t just another workshop.

It became a place for honest conversations, practical advice, and quiet encouragement, where one parent’s hard‑won insight becomes another’s lifeline.

Join us in continuing to build these communities of care: https://childrenofvietnam.org/donate/

One of the most practical questions when supporting university scholarships is: What comes next?

For many students from difficult backgrounds, graduation is only the start of another challenge. Limited resources, little exposure, and a lack of career guidance can make the future feel uncertain.

That is why COV is preparing students for that journey from now, not only through scholarships but also through the skills and experiences that help them move forward with more confidence.

Through our “Job Readiness Skills” series, students joined a hands on learning visit with Four Points by Sheraton Da Nang to explore professional applications and workplace environments firsthand.

In April, we continued with Curriculum Vitae (CV), Cover Letter Writing, along with Email Writing Skills training sessions for 103 students.

And this journey will continue. More workshops on communication, workplace readiness, and career development are still ahead.

Because while we cannot guarantee the future, we can help students feel more prepared to face it

In today’s fast-paced world, many young people are carrying pressure from school, relationships, and daily life. Sometimes, misunderstandings happen simply because we are not used to expressing what we truly feel or listening to others with enough understanding.

Through the Nonviolent Communication workshop organized by COV this past April, 9 students had the chance to slow down and practice communicating in a more thoughtful way. Instead of quickly judging or assuming, they learned how to share what they genuinely observed and felt.

The workshop created a small but meaningful space where students could listen, reflect, and connect with one another more openly.
