Midnight Update: She’s doing pretty well given all the circumstances. I gave her a stuffed friend so she’s not alone and I was attempting to get a video of her playing with it, but of course as soon as I walked over there she stopped.

I don’t normally allow the kittens to bite, chew, or attack our hands during play since I don’t want them to learn to bite humans, but I did make an exception in this moment because I feel like any interaction with her right now is positive and she doesn’t have a whole lot of options for play. The fact that she wants to play though is incredible.

I’m still waiting to hear back from both the vets clinics we work with about options with her and costs of those options. Other than needing to start fundraising, there’s not an urgency to getting the options since she needs to gain weight before surgery is even safe for her.

She and her siblings do have an appointment this morning for their FVRCP booster, but it’s not a full appointment, so it’s unlikely I find out much then.

This is a really crappy situation, but the fact that she is able to get herself in and out the tiny litter box, eats a full can of food at every meal, is still extremely affectionate, and even wants to play really drives home the fact that I made the right choice on giving her a chance.

She’s going to have mobility differences for sure, but this little girl deserves the chance to be someone’s little princess and best friend, and as long as she’s willing to fight, I’m going to fight for her.

Even after everything, all the meds I’ve had to give her, she’s still just so sweet and loving. She got along ok over the night. There was a 💩 in the litter box when I got up and it was not smeared everywhere and on her like I was afraid of, just a normal poo. Cats are such resilient and amazing creatures. We still have a very long way to go, but getting through this first night was my biggest worry.

‼️Do not scroll through pics if squeamish! Keep reading for info‼️

If you haven’t seen our latest Facebook update you missed the current situation with Midnight. So I’m posting a screenshot, I’ll delete it off the Facebook post if it lets me.

So, saying Midnight can’t catch a break was probably not the best phrase to use. She definitely has a broken leg, and may require amputation.

This is not an easy post to make, but I like being open and honest. Earlier this evening while our 9yr old was playing a video game he got frustrated and jumped up and down. Just as he landed Midnight ran under his feet, she screamed a crazy scream and I had to finagle a way to get her out from under the couch. I quickly got her in a carrier and rushed her to the emergency vet.

It’s easy to say that accidents happen, but it’s hard to reconcile that this happened on my watch and he said he’s literally never felt so badly about anything in his entire life.

Right now, I’ve got her in the bigger incubator so she can get what’s called “cage rest.” The e-vet suggested euthanasia as an option, but it just didn’t feel right, we’ve got her on pain meds, and we will explore the full set of options on Monday. She can hopefully heal this or live life as an adorable tripod.

This is really just awful and I don’t have a lot of words. I’ve nested the x-ray picture after a lot of pics of Midnight resting if you don’t mind painful looking pictures. Again. Please do not scroll if you don’t want to see it. It’s rough…this year has been rough….

Once I know the cost of everything I’ll make a fundraiser or GoFundMe to help with her expenses directly.

Midnight can’t seem to catch a break, I hadn’t even had time to make an update about her visit today with All Creatures Veterinary Hospital and now we are at After Hours Veterinary Emergency Clinic/Guilford College Animal Hospital.

The lump on her face seems to be an abscess that isn’t yet big enough to drain and should be treatable with antibiotics. However, we are at the ER vet right now with a potential broken leg. I will update her condition and how this happened after we know what’s going on. She’s alert, but is most likely in pain. Please say a prayer and keep this little girl in your thoughts. She’s just the sweetest and doesn’t deserve to have to go through all this. 😫

We’ll be going back to All Creatures Veterinary Hospital with Midnight this morning. She went in on Tuesday for really loose 💩, I’m talking like a squeeze balloon situation that was not getting better like the other kitties who were getting treated for coccidia. Her f***l came back negative for coccidia, they did a giardia test and that came back negative as well. Ended up that she has a bacteria infection in her belly so we’ve been treating her for that. That’s gotten significantly better, but last night I noticed a weird lump on the right side of her face under her ear. Mr. Sparks is supposed to go today, so we are doing a work-in with her. He’s fine, his appointment is just to establish care, check his f***l, and get his first round of distemper. Say a little prayer or think happy thoughts for Midnight that this is just an inflamed lymph node or something that can easily be treated. 🤞🏻

Spay and neuter you cats, whether they are inside or stray/ferals you feed outside. Baby kittens shouldn’t have to go through all this.

We ask for helped, and boy did ya’ll show up. 8 cases of food and over $100 raised. I really am so grateful for this community and each individual one of you who continues to support our mission to save these vulnerable felines.

We had a vet visit for a few of the kitties yesterday, but I’ll make a separate post about that. Thank you again to everyone who donates, shares, and engages!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Hi Everyone! We are in serious 🚨need of kitten food. We are down to the last 3 cases of the and we currently go through a 1/2 case per day. Soon Romeo, Paris, December, and Archer will be weaning and will we be going through even more. I need to keep as much of our funds in the bank as possible since we have 14 spay/neuter appointments coming up between now and July 20th

I’ve posted our Chewy wishlist through below and what we need the most is the Turkey Fancy Feast Kitten or even just chewy gift cards. Even $5 can add up fast! Thank you so helping support these kittens and our mission. This kitten season has been a bit overwhelming and I am super grateful for this community!

Archer has his first FVRCP vaccine and his f***l exam came back negative! It’s been a long week, but cuteness like this makes it all worth it! Enjoy a full minute of unabashed kitten joy.

Kitten Lady literally wrote the book on fostering neonates (it’s call Tiny but Mighty).

Here’s a video on why Romeo is separated from his sisters right now. It sucks, but it definitely the right decision. The ACO at the shelter we pulled his litter from has seen the skin/hair issue he’s having before and it’s 100% due to his sister nursing on his elbow. It’s basically the skin trying to scab, but not being able to due to the constant moisture and suckling. Since it’s gotten a bit better after bathing him and separating him, and it’s not causing him pain, or redness, or any real issues, the vet thinks it’s ok to wait until his already scheduled appointment on Tuesday to take a look at it. Once we fully wean the kittens (which starts soon), there is a good chance they will be able to be back together!

If you’ve ever thought about fostering for us (or another rescue/shelter), I highly recommend following her and subscribing to her YouTube page. She’s has a wealth of information!

General update on kittens and the craziness that is .

First off, thank you to whoever sent the case of kitten food and the litter, as well as the people who have donated gift cards through Chewy and their program. We go through around 12-15 cans of kitten food per day usually, so any help we can get there is greatly appreciated and helps us to keep money in the bank for medical expenses. I would also like to thank the people who donated when I posted about Betty’s emergency vet visit!

Betty is doing well. Her foster-to-adopter has not seen any 🩸 in the litter box since yesterday, so that’s great news!

However, since Betty was asymptomatic for coccidia, we didn’t know she had it until the f***l was done. She mostly used the litter boxes in the front of the house, which are next to the play yard for Pebble, London, Midnight, Karma, and Sparks. 3 of those kittens had f***ls done while she was still here and tested negative. Even her brother tested negative. It’s crazy how these things can hide.

The past 36-48 hours has been insanity. It’s been a constant battle of cleaning 💩 off the floor and play yard wall, off the kittens, changing the bedding, changing the litter boxes just for them to 💩 in them immediately after and I have to do it again… angry bellies, hangry kittens because everything was just going straight through them. It’s been like a poop-pocalypse 🫣 I picked up some probiotics and decided to do a 24 hour belly reset with KRM (kitten milk replacement) for the kitties who would drink it and a wet food that is easier to digest for the ones who won’t.

I don’t know if it’s the probiotics, belly reset diet, or both. But this morning has been a breath of fresh air (literally less stinky). There is so much less poo and they are playing, relaxed and not screaming for food because they are actually retaining what they are eating.

Right now I am treating all the kittens in the play yards even the ones separated, including the new 3 and Archer.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel our adoption event this weekend since I don’t want to potentially expose anyone there.

Romeo has had to be separated from Paris and December. Unfortunately, I discovered that Paris was nursing on his elbow (😳????) to the point that the fur came off and I found him nursing on her bum. 🤦🏻‍♀️ They are allowed to have supervised playtime, but Romeo now has his own room next to Archer. Paris and December can stay together because they seem to only play with each other and not nurse on each other.
***adding after typing most of this post out. I had a moment to bathe Romeo some now that he’s put on some weight, and found some weird brown stuff on the follicles of the hair surrounding the elbow that was being nursed on. It’s definitely not flea dirt, I’ve never seen anything like it before and our vet is closed on Wednesdays. I don’t think it constitutes an emergency because it doesn’t seem to bother him and it’s not all over him, but the arm, elbow, and shoulder area. I’ll obviously call about it in the morning and send a picture, but playtime with sisters is cut until I know what it is.***

As soon as we are past the treatment for the coccidia, I can let Archer start playing with the Romeo litter (still supervised, I don’t trust the nursers). The kittens in the big play yard can be integrated into the household and the others can be moved to the big play yard.

It’s been a lot y’all. Please bear with me if I am slow to respond to msgs and emails (this goes for people on the personal side as well as professional). I’m putting out the most important fires first. Just for reference, I started this post at 11am. It is now, *looks at watch* …. after 4pm. (It’s gotten funnier the later it’s gotten as I’ve had to change it😅)

I go back and forth sometimes on whether or not to post the not so cute sides of rescue, but at the end of the day, I think it’s important for the community to see what’s real and what happens. We’re overcrowded, and this is the reality of that. I wish kitten season was all purrs and biscuits, but a lot of times it’s not.

We’ll get back to the cute soon, and here’s some cute for you now. Thanks again for supporting this tiny rescue and the mission to save orphaned kittens. I appreciate you all more than you know!
