This summer, 14 young people in High Point will have the chance to do more than earn a paycheck. They will have the chance to build confidence, learn real workplace skills, explore future careers, and experience the powerful feeling that their community believes in them.

We are writing to invite you to support the Summer Work Earn and Learn Project, also known as SWEP, a 9-week summer workforce and youth development program led by High Point Community Against Violence, with support from GrowthEdge Consulting and Tiny House Community Development.

SWEP is designed for 7th through 12th grade students from High Point neighborhoods where many young people face barriers to opportunity, including limited access to paid work,
transportation, mentorship, career exposure, and structured summer activities. For these students, summer can be a vulnerable time. Without safe and meaningful opportunities, young
people may experience isolation, disengagement from school, financial stress, or increased exposure to unsafe environments.

SWEP offers a different path.

Through this summer program, students will participate in paid work-based learning for 15 hours per week, gaining early job experience while earning income. They will also take part in
workshops focused on workforce readiness, leadership, financial literacy, violence prevention, social-emotional skills, and long-term planning. With support from caring adults and community partners, students will be introduced to career pathways in community development, skilled trades, nonprofit work, and other fields that can lead to lasting economic mobility.

This program is about much more than summer employment. It is about helping young people see themselves as capable, valued, and needed. It is about giving them a safe place to grow,
trusted adults to learn from, and practical skills they can carry into school, work, and life. It is about prevention, dignity, and possibility.

We are asking for your support today. Your gift can make a direct and meaningful difference:
● A gift of $150 supports one student’s wages for one week.
● A gift of $1,350 supports one student’s wages for the full 9-week program.
● A gift of $4,424 supports the full program cost for one student.
● A gift of $10,000 or more provides major support for student wages, transportation,
staffing, and program operations.

Your support will help young people gain early exposure to the habits, expectations, and confidence needed to succeed in employment, while also strengthening community safety,
educational engagement, and long-term economic stability.

We hope you will consider making a donation to support the Summer Work Earn and Learn Project. Your generosity will help ensure that students who are too often left out of opportunity
are instead invited into a summer of learning, earning, connection, and hope.

We expect to install the concrete base for the replica cannon at the Veterans Resource Center and plan to further expand our collection with additional artifacts. We continually seek military memorabilia to display in the houses and Veterans Resource Center.

Today, while in Raleigh, NC, I had the distinct pleasure of engaging in discussions with real estate professionals and several North Carolina legislators regarding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and the significance of enacting legislation to preclude local governments from prohibiting ADUs, given their numerous beneficial applications for homeowners, including accommodating children with physical or mental disabilities, facilitating aging in place, providing income-based housing options, and generating additional income. Call you legislators and encourage them to support HB: 627
