It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our camp Commander, Jeff Frank. Jeff passed away late yesterday evening and the void left behind is already enormous. Having served as Commander since 2015, Jeff made the Sloan Camp one of his top priorities and helped preserve the history we hold so dear. Today we hold his wife Kim, his mother and his children in our hearts and ask that each of you keep them in your prayers.

As we learn of arrangements, we will be sure to inform the camp members.

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of our beloved and long-time Chaplain, Mr. William Herbert Martin "Herb" Tucker, who passed away today in Greensboro. Herb was a true Southern gentleman, always there to lend a supportive hand, kind word and was a constant reminder of the True Cause of our Heritage. He will be greatly missed and not easily replaced.

As had become custom with our camp's annual Lee-Jackson banquet, Herb would read Senator Benjamin Hill's 1874 tribute to General Lee. It now seems fitting to do so once more in honor of our fallen compatriot.

“When the future historian shall come to survey the character of Lee he will find it rising like a huge mountain above the undulating plane of humanity, and he must lift his eyes high toward heaven to catch its summit. He possessed every virtue of other great commanders without their vices. He was a foe without hate; a friend without treachery; a soldier without cruelty; a victor without oppression; and a victim without murmuring. He was a public officer without vices; a private citizen without wrong; a neighbor without reproach; a Christian without hypocrisy and a man without guile. He was a Caesar without his ambition; Frederick without his tyranny; Napoleon without his selfishness; and Washington without his reward. He was obedient to authority as a servant, and royal in authority as a true king. He was gentle as a woman in life; modest and pure as a virgin in thought; watchful as a Roman vestal in duty; submissive to law as Socrates; and grand in battle as Achilles.”
