Another box has sprouted in our little corner at the adoption center.

Next Step Adoption Center is now home to:

🐶 🐱 a pet supply pantry (the large one)

📕 a free little library

🧒 👦 a human food pantry (newest one)

& 🧸 a trinket trade box (on instagram - )

They are all up and running! Thank you to everyone that donates, keeps the pantry full, add books, trades trinkets and checks on the boxes.

We love spreading joy every day!

Unfortunately we are at that time of year that rescues are completely full and county shelters are turning people away. I don’t understand the last part of that sentence because most county shelters are run with our tax dollars but oh well 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Regardless, if you pick up a baby kitten or a puppy or a dog or a cat you have chosen to take responsibility for that animal. No one at this time of the year is going to be able to bail you out. Do not rescue an animal unless you plan on caring for it until you find it a forever home. 

Animal Controls hands are tied and rescues hands are tied. We have no space.

What resources are there available?
Many rescues will run a courtesy listing for you. They will post the animal you have found on Petfinder and on social media. You have to be willing to give a contact number so that people can contact you when they are interested in that animal. 

Some rescues might even allow you to bring the animal that you have found to their adoption events. However, keep in mind that you finding one kitten or one puppy at home is easier than a rescue that has to find 50 kittens or puppies at home.

Some rescues might be able to help with vaccinations and deworming. This costs a rescue money so offering a donation is very much appreciated. 

I just wanted to put this out there as we are receiving up to 20 emails a day which does not include phone calls and text messages about single kittens and single puppies that people have picked up.

Lastly, give rescues some grace. Better yet, volunteer for one!

As promised, here are better pictures of the dogs that were living in a car while their owner was hospitalized. Owner has been transferred to ICU and is not expected to live. We hope that it brings him some peace to know that his dogs are safe and will be cared for.

We are about $150 short on the fundraiser for these two. They are scheduled to be neutered and spayed, receive a rabies vaccine, heartworm tested, and microchipped, on June 1 at Sheets Pet Clinic in Greensboro.

Every rescue group has "long timers". These are fosters that have been with them the longest. Sometimes it's because they require a special home, sometimes it's because they aren't the cute/cuddly young version, and sometimes there is no rhyme or reason.

ARFP and one of our fellow rescue groups, Hart-2-Heart Rescue , have some dogs that have been with each of our groups longer than the average amount of time in rescue. We are going to link each of the dogs to this post, with hopes, that a forever home is right around the corner.
