Starting on October 15th, registered members will begin receiving messages reminding them to renew their registration before it runs out. That reminder will now come from Sam, an AI assistant with Scouting America, and Sam answers families when they reply. How people renew doesn't change.

The reminder will come from a toll-free number with no name, so phones show it as an unknown sender with a Report spam link. It's the same text for everyone, and nobody answers a reply. The new reminder shows up as Scouting America, with the logo and a verified check mark, and it's written for each family.

Spots are filling up for the October 24th Merit Badge College that is being held at Alamance Community College.

Moviemaking is filled to capacity and several other courses are either halfway full or only have a handful of slots left. If your unit has yet to sign up for this opportunity, you have until next Tuesday, October 20th to do so.

The price is $13 for any Scout wanting to attend.

It might be a little rainy but that isn't stopping Cub Scouts out at Cherokee Scout Reservation from having a good time this weekend at the first Howl-O-Ree event this year!

If your pack wasn't able to attend this year make, make sure to keep a look out for registration for 2027 when it becomes available. December is just around the corner, so now is a great time for units to start to think about Winter Camp held at Cherokee Scout Reservation on December 27-30. There will be lots of activities to be had during this time, including Range & Target Activities, ATVs, training and 25+ merit badge courses.

It may be early in October but it's not too early to be thinking about December and Winter Camp t Cherokee Scout Reservation!

This year Winter Camp will take place December 27-30 and will offer Scouts and Scouters numerous opportunities that are not normally offered throughout the year such as r***e and sh***un shooting, NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation, Wilderness First Aid, F.R.O.G. rank advancment for Second and First class ranks and leader-specific training courses. On top of all of that, there are 25 merit badges that will also be offered during this 3-day event that your Scouts can earn.

Introducing a new National Day of Service. Each fall, Scouting America will host a National Day of Service, anchored by Scouting for Food. This shared day of giving unites Scouts nationwide.

In support of this inaugural National Service Day, Old North State Council will participate in a council-wide food drive in support of BackPack Beginnings, a local nonprofit which provides essential supplies and food to children and families in need.

This food drive will take place on Saturday, November 14th and with it, your unit can participate in two ways:

1. Your unit can participate in store-front collection points and accepting donations from the public

2. Unit and chartered partner holds their own food drive prior to the National Service Day and then delivers the collected items to BackPack Beginnings on November 14th.

Individual Scouts who participate in this service project will receive a patch for their uniform while participating units will receive a ribbon to display on their flags.

The unit from each district that collects the most food per youth unit member will receive a pizza party.

The N.C. Transportation Museum annual Scouts BSA Rail Camp will be held October 17-19, 2025. Scouts will enjoy a weekend of overnight camping, adventure, fellowship, and learning. Activities include a train ride, banner contest, flag ceremonies, scavenger hunt, talent show, and workshops to help them earn their Railroading Merit Badge. Scouts will learn how to identify different types of railcars, how diesel-electric locomotives work, the importance of railroad signals, everything needed to cover the badge.

This is an excellent opportunity for scouts to interact with other troops, network and make friendships. Don’t miss out on the fun!
