Coming up in November, Cherokee Scout Reservation will once again host their annual Arrow of Light: Trailhead weekend November 13-14.

The purpose of Arrow of Light: Trailhead is to encourage current Arrow of Light Scouts to transition to a Scouts BSA troop during the January-February 2027 period (The goal is for all Arrow of Light Scouts to transition to Scouts BSA no later than February 28).
We will provide Arrow of Light Scouts with experiences they could not do as Cub Scouts and whet their appetites for what they can do as Scouts BSA.

We encourage parents/guardians of Arrow of Light Scouts to attend Arrow of Light: Trailhead to have a fun experience with their Scout and learn what it means to be a Scouts BSA parent versus a Cub Scout parent. There will be a training session for Arrow of Light parents/guardians.

Some of the program activities planned for the weekend include:
- BB Challenge Trail (BB gun shooting with challenging targets; not the typical range)
- Laser Shot
- Tabletop Catapults
- Climbing tower
- Blacksmithing (age-appropriate, hands-on project in the metalwork shop)
- Earn Fireman Chit
- Exposure to the Scouts BSA 10 Essentials
- Friday night campfire

The event is open to all Arrow of Light Scouts (current 5th graders), parents/guardians of Arrow of Light Scouts, Arrow of Light Den Leaders and Pack Leaders/Cubmasters

For more information on this event and to register, please go to the following link: https://scoutingevent.com/070-aoltrailhead

The cost is $35 for Arrow of Light Scouts.
The cost for all types of adults is $20.
The cost for den chiefs is $20.

There will be a pre-event leader meeting scheduled for Sunday, August 30th at 9:00pm via Zoom. You can pre-register for this meeting by going to the following link:

Fall is when most prospective families start searching BeAScout.org for a Scouting unit near them. Your pin is often their very first look at your unit — and if it’s out of date, they may never find you.

The good news: updating your pin takes just a few minutes. This page walks you through what to check and links to full instructions for making the update.

If you a member of your unit's Key 3, log into your Scouting account and in the Organization Manager section and make sure your unit's information is correct and up to date so that prospective families can find your unit as the school year starts back up.

You can find simple walkthrough instructions by going to: https://www.scouting.org/pin/

Are you a registered adult in your Scout's pack and looking to get more involved in leadership roles and to become a vital part of the unit? Then you should attend ONSC's upcoming Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation course...or BALOO for short.

This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight outdoor camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.

The fall session will take place at Hagan Sea Base in Lexington on Friday September 18th and into Saturday, September 19th. The cost is $40 per attendee and the deadline to register is September 15th at 11:59pm. Spots fill up fast so be sure to have your adults registered as soon as possible.

Remember, it is mandated that a pack must have at least one BALOO-trained adult on any planned pack overnighter, and you being trained may be the deciding factor as to whether or not your pack can go camping (people get sick, emergencies pop up, it's good to have a deep bench when it comes to adult volunteers).

You can learn more and register by going to the following link:

The new school year is almost upon us and there is no better time to get elementary-aged kids "hooked" on Cub Scouting! And what better way to get them started off on their Scouting journey than to be outdoors on a Saturday morning on the shores of a lake catching fish!

The Old North State Council is happy to accomodate this through its annual Fishing Derby! This year it will be held on Saturday, September 26 from 8am-12noon at SIX locations spread across our area:

- City Lake Park, 602 W Main St., Jamestown
- Finch Park, 15 Paul Beck Rd., Lexington
- Graham-Mebane Lake, 3218 Bason Rd., Mebane
- Guilford County Farm, 7315 Howerton Road, Elon
- Lake Reidsville Park, 630 Water Works Rd, Reidsville
- Sportsmans Club, 7999 Winfree Rd., Summerfield

The cost is just $5 per Scout to partipate. If you are a "New" Scout (as in you joined on or after August 1, 2026) or are a youth who is interested in joining Scouting, this event is FREE.

As an added bonus, if your Scout brings someone along with them and they register to become a Scout at the event, BOTH the Scout and recruit will get a brand new fishing rod!

The summer of 2026 may be starting to wind down, but the planning for the summer of 2027 has just begun! And your unit can be a part of it putting down a $100 deposit to reserve your campsite at Cherokee Scout Reservation for next summer!

Dates for the six weeks of summer camp are:

Week 1: June 20 - 26
Week 2: June 27 - July 3
Week 3: July 4 - 10
Week 4: July 11 - 17
Week 5: July 18 - 24
Week 6: July 25 - 31

To reserve your campsite, simply go to the following link and put down a $100 deposit and ensure that you and your unit get the campsite which you prefer. It's first come, first serve so be sure to do it as soon as possible so some other unit doesn't claim it first!
https://scoutingevent.com/070-csrsummer2027

And remember, in the event that your unit has not decided yet on what they are going to do for summer camp next year, Cherokee Scout Reservation will be hosting an open house on the weekend of September 18-20 where the camp will showcase a taste of the programs, activities, food and facilities it has to offer in hopes that your unit decides to for summer camp next year. Details of that event, along with registration can be found here: https://scoutingevent.com/070-csropenhouse
