We are pleased to welcome author Aran Shetterly to the 60th Annual Citation Award Dinner. He will help us honor Joyce Hobson Johnson on Nov 12. Aran is the author of Morningside: The 1979 Greensboro Massacre and the Struggle for an American City’s Soul. This work is described as “an unflinching look at the all but forgotten, though no less shocking 1979 racial tragedy that divided Greensboro, N.C., and the nation, and the grassroots activists who, in their tireless fight for justice, refused to give up on America’s promised ideals.”
Joyce and her late husband, Rev Nelson Johnson, were witnesses, survivors, and instrumental in reparative work during the incident’s aftermath.
In addition, Mrs. Johnson has contributed to the City of Greensboro in both professional and civic capacities.
We will honor her contributions to our community on November 12. We hope you’ll join us.
