A lot has changed in Greensboro since 1958.
Dwight Eisenhower was President. Elvis Presley was the King of Rock and Roll. NASA was brand new.
Greensboro Fire Station 49 was opening its doors for the first time.
68 years later, Station 49 is still operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But the building hasn't kept up with the needs of a modern fire department.
Today, the station lacks dedicated facilities for female firefighters. Its apparatus bays are too small to accommodate some modern fire trucks, and its bay doors are among the slowest in the city.
The proposed $15.9 million Firefighting Facilities Bond includes $5 million to renovate Station 49 and $10.9 million to construct a new fire station in east Greensboro. These are much-needed investments in Greensboro's public safety infrastructure.
On November 3, Greensboro voters will decide whether to approve these projects as part of the Firefighting Facilities Bond. Greensboro's firefighters are asking residents to VOTE YES!
Early Voting: October 15–31
Election Day: November 3
