Fall is full of opportunities for adventure, creativity, and connection, and Youth Focus is inviting the community to be part of the fun!

There are so many ways to make the season special for youth, from leading a hands-on activity to hosting an event, sponsoring an experience, or accompanying youth on a seasonal outing.

Activity ideas include:

Looking for a meaningful way to support Youth Focus? There are so many ways to share time, talents, and creativity with local youth. 💙

Volunteers can host an activity, class, or workshop at Act Together Youth Shelter or My Sister Susan's House. These 1.5-hour opportunities are a great way to share a skill or create a memorable experience.

Other opportunities include hosting or sponsoring a meal, providing administrative support, deep cleaning shared spaces, or creating a bulletin board.

Looking for a daytime volunteer opportunity? Mark the calendar for these first semester school breaks and student holidays, when Youth Focus can often schedule additional activities:

At Youth Focus, the little things can create big moments of joy, connection, and fun! 🍦 This fall, the community is invited to help youth celebrate some of their favorite national food holidays.

There are several ways to participate. Volunteers can drop off or arrange delivery of store or restaurant-purchased treats, provide a gift card so youth can enjoy a special outing or meal, or join Youth Focus in person to celebrate and share the experience.

Resource & Development Committee: Help raise awareness, build community connections, expand networks, and support fundraising efforts that strengthen the Youth Focus mission. This committee meets virtually 1 to 2 times per month from August through March.

🎳✨ A huge thank you to Main Event Greensboro for helping create a fun and memorable experience for the youth at ACT Together!

Thanks to their generous donation of free bowling and arcade credits, our youth enjoyed time filled with laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of smiles. Experiences like these provide more than just a fun outing. They create opportunities for connection, confidence building, and positive memories that youth can carry with them.

We’re excited to continue our work creating opportunities, building connections, and empowering youth in our community with help from from . For several years, Starbucks has been a valued partner of Youth Focus through Love Opens Doors, helping open pathways of support, encouragement, and hope for young people and families.

This grant will help us continue providing meaningful programs, resources, and experiences that strengthen our community and remind youth that they are seen, supported, and valued. Summer at Youth Focus brings new energy, new experiences, and new opportunities for connection for the young people in our care.

When school is out, we provide engaging activities to help youth stay active and supported—both at Act Together, our emergency shelter, and through outings across the community. These moments are essential in helping youth build confidence, explore new environments, and stay connected to positive experiences.

This semester, Youth Focus had the privilege of partnering with Erica James as she completed her Capstone Project focused on strengthening our long-term funding strategy.

Through her work, Erica interviewed nonprofit leaders across North Carolina to better understand effective fundraising and grant-seeking practices, researched funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporations, and developed a customized grant roadmap tailored to Youth Focus. Her project identified new potential funding sources and provided practical tools to help sustain programs serving youth experiencing homelessness, including pregnant and parenting youth.

We are deeply grateful for her time, insight, and commitment to advancing this work. Congratulations to Erica on earning her Master’s in Public Policy from UNC and on all she has accomplished. We wish her continued success as she begins her next chapter working on Capitol Hill.
