You’re 5 weeks pregnant. You’ve called your OBGYN office, but they won’t schedule an appointment for another few weeks. This can be so frustrating, but here’s why.

At your first pregnancy appointment, they will likely give you an ultrasound to determine viability, gestational age, and location of the pregnancy. (Bonus—they will look for multiple babies as well!)

At 5 weeks pregnant, the baby is too small to be accurately detected by an ultrasound.

An appointment around 8 weeks, for example, will allow you to see your baby and discuss the ultrasound results with your OBGYN.

Did you know the FDA doesn’t recommend the abortion pill after 10 weeks of pregnancy?

(Don’t forget—this is dated from your last menstrual period, NOT your positive pregnancy test)

If you have irregular periods, don’t remember your last period, or aren’t sure that your bleeding was a real period, you might be much further along than you think.

Which makes the abortion pill much less effective and more dangerous for you.

Don’t decide on a chemical abortion unless you’ve gotten an ultrasound to confirm how many weeks pregnant you are.

Why accuracy matters:

It can help you determine the due date, possibly the father of the baby, and your eligibility for certain medications.

An ultrasound is the best way to date gestational age accurately.

We provide FREE first ultrasounds here at The Pregnancy Network, up to 20 weeks.

Get information, get informed, and get peace of mind.

If you’re local to the Triad, book your ultrasound: thepregnancynetwork.org/appointment
