The domain name for YouTube.com was registered on February 14, 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, three former PayPal employees. The site opened on a limited basis in May 2005 and officially launched to the public in December 2005. The first video, "Me at the zoo", was uploaded by Karim on April 23, 2005 and as of March 2024, it had been viewed over 310 million times.
