Junior League of Greensboro

Junior League of Greensboro Women building better communities. That's the Junior League. The content of this site is the responsibility of the Junior League of Greensboro.

The Junior League of Greensboro has been the driving force behind the kinds of initiatives and institutions that make our community a healthier, more vital place to live. Junior League members, reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and professional pursuits work together to identify unmet needs, forge effective coalitions, and work for change. Time and time again, the Junior League is among the first organizations to step up to the plate and tackle a community’s biggest challenges.

Being part of JLG can be a life-changing experience. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your years as a member:
1) Show up. And not just to GMMs. To fully understand what we do and how you can make an impact, you need to participate. You can choose how (volunteer events? CONNECTions events? Affinity groups? Training sessions? Bargain Box? It’s up to you) but getting there will make all the difference.
2) Connections don’t make themselves: with other members, with community partners - it is worth it to reach out and connect with those around you. If you have a question, ask it. Friendships can blossom and doors can open from a quick introduction.
3) Say yes to leadership roles, even when (especially when!) it makes you a little nervous: JLG is a safe place to learn and test new skills. Having the opportunity to try something out of your comfort zone is one of the perks of the League.
4) …But you also don’t have to say yes every time. You know you and your schedule and other commitments. If this isn’t the year to say yes, that’s ok. You can serve in a role that better fits your capacity.
5) Have fun. At the end of the day, JLG is a community of like-minded women who want to make a difference in Greensboro - and have a great time doing it. Don’t forget that part!

Even though the League year technically starts in June, August is when it begins to pick up steam. Before that, we got in a little summer vacation. This is just a small sample of what our members were up to this summer - visiting locales far away (a mother-daughter trip to France, a mission trip to Puerto Rico) or nearby (strolling around in Newport, RI, a weekend getaway to Asheville), exploring with our families (sports games, the Tweetsie Railroad, our very own Greensboro Science Center), taking in the view from the Intracoastal Waterway, and so much more. Members, we want to hear from you: what did you do while JLG was on summer break?

JLG’s Greensboro EATS initiative means fighting food insecurity is our main focus. Whether we’re hosting cooking demos, writing a Resource Recipe guide, or planning an event for access or awareness, we’re always thinking about ways to help kids access nutritious foods. If you want to help but don’t know where to start, we’d love for you to spread the word about our first Play with Purpose event on October 11! Check the comments for a graphic you can share!
