Serving Our Community Together!

This weekend, the Downtown Greensboro Rotary Club partnered with Noble Academy students, parents, and community volunteers for an incredible day of service and impact.

Together, we assembled 400 healthy snack bags for children in need through Out of the Garden Project, helping support their weekly efforts to provide nourishment to local families. In addition, volunteers spent time writing heartfelt cards for veterans and painting inspirational rocks that will be placed along the school's cross-country course to encourage and motivate student athletes.

A special thank you to our four Downtown Rotary volunteers who joined the project and worked alongside these outstanding young people and families. Seeing multiple generations come together to serve others is a powerful reminder of what community is all about.

We are grateful to everyone who donated their time, energy, and creativity to make a difference. Small acts of service add up to a big impact, and today was proof of that.

For 17 years, Dan Quinn's golf event and 13 years of PigStock have helped change lives through Children of Vietnam, raising more than $600,000 to support young girls from middle school through college. This year, due to a health challenge, Dan is taking a well-deserved break from hosting these events, but the commitment to the girls continues.

As we head into October, we're asking our friends, family, and community to help us keep that promise alive.

There is still important work to do, with approximately $177,000 remaining to be raised over the next six years to fulfill the commitment made to these amazing young women. Every gift, no matter the size, helps provide educational opportunities and a brighter future.

If you've ever attended a golf tournament, PigStock, or supported this mission in any way, please consider making a contribution this month.

Together, we can ensure these students stay on their path to success.

A ramp may seem like a simple project, but for one local resident, it represents greater independence, safety, and freedom.

Our club was proud to partner with Community Housing Solutions to help build a wheelchair ramp for an individual in need. Thank you to all the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and made a real impact in our community this past weekend.

Service is strongest when we work together. 💙

September Member Spotlight: Meet Jim Kennedy!

How long have you been involved with Rotary, and what keeps you engaged?
Jim has been a Rotarian since 1991. What keeps him engaged after more than three decades is the opportunity to make a difference both financially and through hands-on service, along with the fellowship and relationships he has built throughout the years.

What's one Rotary project or moment that has been especially meaningful to you?
Jim says there are too many meaningful experiences to count, but two stand out: a multi-club mission trip to Russia in 1994 and his involvement with Neighborhoods United, a collaborative initiative bringing together all Greensboro Rotary clubs to serve the community.

Outside of Rotary, what are you most passionate about?
Golf. And, as Jim puts it, "being the best person I can be in these times."

What advice would you give someone considering joining Rotary? "Really dig into the opportunities to both do good and the fellowship it offers. It will take you out of yourself and transcend the relationship difficulties that plague society right now."
