Two Cities. One Mission. One Incredible Night.

Yesterday, BSI-Greensboro was making an impact across the Triad!

📍 Greensboro: Our young men suited up and served as ushers for Prom Under the Stars, a memorable evening for adults with special needs hosted by the M&S Center for Opportunities. They showed up ready to serve, welcome, assist, and make others feel celebrated.

📍 Winston-Salem: BSI was honored as Greensboro Nonprofit of the Year at the Triad Minority & Women’s Business Expo Gala! 🏆

What made the recognition even more meaningful? While BSI was being recognized in one city, our young men were showing exactly why in another.

Two cities. One mission. Investing In What Matters. đź–¤

Every year, we have the privilege of meeting incredible young men who hope to become part of the BSI family. But what made this year especially meaningful wasn’t just the applicants, it was who was sitting at the interview table.

Alongside several of our current Ambassadors were BSI graduates from the Classes of 2012, 2025, and 2026, who returned to help conduct interviews and be part of selecting the next generation of young men.

There’s something powerful about watching those who once sat in the interview chair come back years later to help welcome others into the brotherhood.

That’s the culture we’re building. That’s the importance of giving back. That’s legacy.

A little late, but too good not to share!

Last month, eight BSI teams went head-to-head to compete for the title of Right Now Business Champion. Thank you to all the families and community members who came out to support our young entrepreneurs and cast their votes.

🏆 Middle School Winner: Hyper Grains – an innovative granola bite made with a minimal ingredient recipe and naturally sweetened only with dried fruit.

🏆 High School Winner: Threads of Fate – an impressive business concept that captured the community’s vote. And if you were there, you couldn’t miss their memorable chant: “We set the trends. We don’t follow the trends!”

Congratulations to Hyper Grains and Threads of Fate on your well-earned victories! We are equally proud of every team that stepped up, developed a business, presented to the community, and demonstrated the confidence, creativity, and teamwork that make BSI so special. Keep dreaming, keep building, and keep leading.

One of my favorite traditions each year is our annual BSI-Greensboro High School Graduates & Ambassadors Trip.

The destination changes every year because our young men help choose where we go. This year, Atlanta was the winner, and what an incredible three days it was!

From exploring the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, and the King Center, to enjoying great restaurants and riding the train, a streetcar, and the Ferris wheel overlooking the city, every stop gave us another opportunity to learn, laugh, and grow together.

But if I’m being honest, my favorite memories aren’t found at any attraction.

They’re in the van and at the Airbnb.

The singing, laughter, conversations, inside jokes, and the moments when these young men simply enjoy being together are what I’ll remember most. Watching them reminds me that The Black Suit Initiative is so much more than a program—it’s a brotherhood.

As another trip comes to an end, my heart is full. I’m grateful for the memories we’ve made, the lives I’ve had the privilege of watching grow, and the opportunity to continue investing in the next generation of leaders.

Until next year’s destination… ❤️

So this happened.

Today, we celebrated our high school graduates. We celebrated our first-year members as they received their Black Suits. We honored the young men who have remained committed to the journey year after year. Most importantly, we celebrated brotherhood.

These are more than members in a program to me. These are the young men I affectionately call my babies. I have watched them grow, overcome challenges, discover their strengths, support one another, and become leaders in their own unique ways.

My heart is full of gratitude for every conversation, every lesson, every laugh, every challenge, and every milestone we’ve shared together. To witness their growth is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

No matter how old they get, how far they travel, or what they accomplish, they will always have a place in my heart. I pray they never forget that they are deeply loved, immensely valued, and capable of achieving far more than they can imagine. Today was a celebration of who they are—and a reminder that their story is only beginning. ❤️🖤

What a day!

Thank you to the parents, families, community partners, and supporters who came out yesterday to support our BSI-Greensboro young men at the Right Now Business Showcase. Your encouragement helped make this event a tremendous success.

We were blown away by the creativity, confidence, and professionalism displayed as our young men pitched the business concepts they’ve spent months developing.

And for those asking who won…

You’ll have to wait until after our End-of-Year Luncheon next week to find out!

🚀 The Competition Is On! 🚀

On Saturday, June 6 at 11:00 AM, eight middle and high school teams from BSI-Greensboro will go head-to-head in the ultimate "Right Now" Business Competition to determine whose business idea, product, and presentation will rise to the top!

Join us at The Bridge Marketplace (404 E. Market St., Greensboro) and experience the creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of these incredible young business owners as they showcase products they have developed from the ground up.

This year, two of our teams had the unique opportunity to work alongside a business mentor, during product development. Our middle school team, Secret Scents, has created two deliciously scented products, but the fragrances are a closely guarded secret. You'll have to stop by and experience them for yourself! Meanwhile, our high school team has taken a natural approach to self-care by developing an all-natural deodorant, Pure Petal, infused with subtle essential oil fragrance.

From unique products to creative branding and sales pitches, these young entrepreneurs have been working hard and are ready to impress.

Stop by between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM to sample products, support local youth, and cast your vote for your favorite business. And stay tuned—there are more teams and products still to be revealed!

Who will take home the title? Come see for yourself!
