What’s going on at the US-Mexico border? What’s happening in the US immigration system? A panel of legal experts and immigrants consider these issues and more at a lunchtime seminar starting at 11 am on May 21 at the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship, 1451 S. Elm-Eugene St.

The City’s International Advisory Committee is co-sponsoring the event, which consists of three sessions sandwiched around a complimentary lunch.
• 11 am to 12:15 pm – Where’s the Line to Enter? Understanding US immigration processes
• 12:15-12:45 pm – The Front Lines: A working lunch with Immigrants’ rights advocate Stefania Arteaga of the Carolina Migrant Network
• 12:45 -2:00 pm – What’s Happening at the US-Mexico Border? Personal accounts and a legal perspective on recent events at the US-Mexico border

Participants may attend one, two, or all three sessions. Register for the seminar, see the schedule, and learn more about the panelists at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/whats-happening-at-the-us-mexico-border-tickets-885105172397?aff=oddtdtcreator.

In addition to the IAC, the following local agencies that provide services to immigrant and refugee populations are co-sponsoring this event: the Center for New North Carolinians (at UNCG), the New Arrivals Institute, Faith Action International, Church World Service, African Services Coalition, McKinney Immigration Law, Carolina Migrant Network, and the Immigration Policy Reform Roundtable of the League of Women Voters.

Established in 2008, the IAC works to create a more inclusive Greensboro for members of the international community. Comprised of individuals whose national origin lies outside of the United States, the committee promotes the perspective of the City’s international community to the Human Rights Commission and City Council. From my friend Hunter Becot.

I am happy to announce that the UNCG MPA program will be hosting (along with other community members) our Spring Speaker Series this month. The annual Spring Speaker Symposium is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27th. Unlike other years, this year we are partnering with several community groups to bring you a nationally renowned speaker, Leah Rothstein. The opportunity to join with others and bring her to Greensboro was one that the MPA program eagerly joined so we could provide our alumni and community constituents this incredible speaker. I hope you are able to attend! For details and to reserve a seat go to www.WVAR.love.
