Washington High Names Kory Holden as New Head Boys Basketball Coach
Washington High & Academy School is proud to announce Kory Holden as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach. Holden, a native of the Eastern Shore, brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience, as well as a strong commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
Coach Holden began his basketball career at James M. Bennett High School, where he was a two-time Bayside Player of the Year, averaging 29.7 points and 8.6 assists per game as a senior. He went on to play at the University of Delaware, averaging 17 points and 5 assists per game, before joining the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the 2017 Final Four team while earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
After college, Holden played professionally in Tbilisi, Georgia, gaining international experience and exposure to diverse styles of basketball. Upon returning home, he spent two years as an assistant coach at his Alma Mater James M. Bennett and a year at Stephen Decatur High School, where he served as JV Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Varsity team. Under his leadership, his JV squad went 16-4, and the Varsity team finished undefeated in the Bayside Conference, capturing the Bayside Championship.
Beyond basketball, Coach Holden is deeply committed to community engagement. He serves as Program Coordinator for Minary’s Dream Alliance, mentoring youth and leading empowerment initiatives. This year, he will serve as Washington High’s School–Community Liaison, fostering strong relationships between students, families, and the school.
Coach Holden shared his vision for the program:
“Washington High has a proud history, and it’s time to bring that pride back. We’re going to compete, we’re going to play hard, and we’re going to represent the Shore the right way. This is about more than basketball—it’s about building young men, and building pride in Washington High again. Basketball is just the reward.”
He added:
“NOTHING’S GOING TO BE HANDED TO US. WE’RE REBUILDING WASHINGTON’S WINNING CULTURE BRICK BY BRICK, AND WHEN THE WORK IS DONE, IT’LL SPEAK FOR ITSELF.”
Community members are invited to meet Coach Holden at Washington High’s Open House this Thursday from Interested student-athletes and families are encouraged to stop by, introduce themselves, and learn more about the upcoming basketball season.
