UpSculpt Empowering action against the crisis of ocean plastic pollution by engaging the public through art, science, and educational workshops.

All rights reserved. UpSculpt was founded by artist Cindy Pease Roe. While walking her dogs along the beach, she was shocked by all the plastic she found washed up on the shore. Cindy began collecting the plastic and bringing it back to her studio, turning what was once considered trash into thought-provoking sculpture. Using art as her platform, Cindy has become an environmental educator and publ

ic advocate, conducting workshops across the globe to educate people about the prevalence and danger of marine litter. After collecting plastic debris from the beach, Cindy cleans and sorts her findings by color and material, transforming displaced waste into meaningful art. This constructive art bears the name UpSculpt, born out of upcycling plastic marine trash and turning it into sculpture. To spread her message of awareness through art, Cindy has created an“UpSculpt” DIY kit, containing directions and tools to create your own whale from marine debris or upcycled materials. The kit encourages people of all ages to clean their beaches (or their closets) and use their imagination to create something meaningful.

“Whales represent a big idea and a big change. They are the largest animals in the world and can be found in every ocean, and, like the whales, we are all connected by the sea.” This connection resonates with people when they see Cindy’s meaningful art and the larger movement it represents, changing the world one Upsculpt whale at a time.

Spring on the U.S. East Coast means warmer waters, migrating wildlife, and unfortunately a surge of plastic washing from streets and rivers into the ocean after seasonal rains. 🌊

Our family of baby hammerheads are sculpted by using 100% marine plastic: shopping bags, sandbags, rope, straws, and miscellaneous pieces. All once floating where real sharks swim.

Valentine’s Day, but make it plastic-free 💐

These vases were made in the UpSculpt studio from recycled glass + reclaimed marine rope, then filled with flowers by . Instead of buying new this year, try it at home: reuse glass jars or bottles, wrap with scrap rope, fabric, or twine, and turn what you already have into something beautiful!

Plastic-free Valentine’s tip: skip cellophane wrap, glitter, and plastic cards! Choose loose flowers, recycled paper, handwritten notes, or experiences. Small choices add up, and love looks better when it leaves a lighter footprint. 🌊❤️
