The Idaho Buckaroo Project

Mission: Promote Understanding and Preserve the Buckaroo Way of Life

HOW this will be accomplished:

1. Continue to document through photographs and interviews/stories the men, women and children—families—of the Idaho Buckaroo and Cowboy culture. This will promote understanding of these families and help preserve this way of life through historical documentation.

2. P

rovide scholarships and apprenticeships to people within this culture. This will include learning how to make bits and spurs, saddles, rawhide braiding, leather work which can be used to accentuate their income, or become the sole source of income should they become injured. It will also include computer, and other beneficial skills. This program would compliment other state programs.

3. Medical Services—Provide free or low-cost traveling medical clinics to the small towns where the Buckaroos and Cowboys live.

I will be on-air with The Idaho Buckaroo Project, Monday, Oct. 14, from noon until 1 p.m. . Beth Markley's program, Environmental Idaho, can be found on KRBX, 89.9 FM, RadioBoise.

I will be sharing insights into the Buckaroo and Cowboy tradition in Idaho and some of the environmental and daily-life concerns they face. I have been documenting the Buckaroos of the Great Basin through photography and interviews. Please share this. It takes both urban and rural conversations to create understanding.

We will also be talking about the Idaho Buckaroo Project exhibit at the Nampa Civic Center as part of the Ring of Fire--Tribute to Johnny Cash performance Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
