Yesterday, our department was dispatched to the Village of Stockbridge on a MABAS Box Alarm assignment (Card 119-2-3) that was upgraded to the 4th Alarm level. Our crew responded with a tender to assist with water supply operations.

Throughout the incident, our tender hauled approximately 9,000 gallons of water to support firefighting efforts. Two loads were fully dumped at the scene, while the third load was retained for our return trip back to the station.

We are proud to assist our neighboring departments through the MABAS system and work together during large-scale incidents.

************ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ************

At 2:09PM on Monday, May 11th, the Morrison Volunteer Fire Department, along with Greenleaf and Wayside Fire Department, were dispatched to the 6000 block of Morrison Road for a reported barn fire. Initial dispatch information indicated a barn filled with hay was on fire. Due to the reported structure fire, automatic mutual aid was started immediately.

Morrison units arrived on scene at 2:14PM to find light smoke showing with visible fire on the northwest side of the barn and flames beginning to extend through the south wall. Due to the close proximity of a nearby garage and residence, crews quickly deployed a 2.5” handline along with a 1.75” handline to begin fire attack and protect the exposures.

As crews began operations, fire conditions rapidly intensified with heavy fire pushing through the south wall of the structure. Water was on the fire at 2:15PM while additional incoming units assisted with fire suppression, water supply, and exposure protection operations. A MABAS Box Alarm 8-12 was requested to the Working Still level for additional manpower and resources.

A tender shuttle operation was established to provide a continuous water supply to the scene. During firefighting and overhaul operations, an excavator was utilized to assist crews with accessing remaining hot spots within the hay and collapsed debris. Approximately 30,000 gallons of water were used during fire fighting operations.

Due to the amount of fire and hay inside the structure, the barn was declared a total loss. Crews remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and completing overhaul operations. The fire was successfully contained to the barn with no extension to nearby structures. All units cleared the scene at approximately 6:14PM.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported during this incident.

Morrison Road in the area of the incident was temporarily closed by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office during fire operations and was later transitioned to barricades after law enforcement units were released from the scene.

The Morrison Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Wayside Fire Department, Greenleaf Fire Department, Denmark Fire Department, Wrightstown Fire Department, De Pere Fire Rescue, County Rescue Services, Wisconsin Public Service, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and Brown County Communications for their assistance during this incident.

🔥 Increased Risk of Grass & Vegetation Fires 🔥

Area fire departments have responded to multiple grass and vegetation fires recently. With current conditions, fires can start easily and spread quickly.

Did you know?
Grass fires can spread as fast as 10–15 mph, especially in dry and windy conditions, that’s faster than most people can run.

Even something small like a discarded cigarette, hot exhaust, or unattended burn pile can quickly turn into a larger fire.

A few important reminders:
- Avoid burning when conditions are dry or windy
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Properly dispose of smoking materials
- Keep a water source or extinguisher nearby if burning is permitted
- Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass

We encourage everyone to stay aware of current fire conditions. You can check the latest fire danger levels from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources here:

Taking a few extra precautions can help prevent fires and keep our community safe.

🌪️ Tornado Awareness Week 🌪️

Did you know?
Tornadoes can form and reach the ground in a matter of minutes, sometimes with little to no visible warning especially at night or during heavy rain.

That’s why having a plan ahead of time is so important.

A few quick safety tips:
- Know your safe place, basement or an interior room on the lowest level
- Have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially while sleeping
- Keep shoes, a flashlight, and your phone nearby in case you need to take shelter quickly
- Avoid windows and protect your head once you’re in a safe area

Severe weather can develop quickly, but being prepared can make all the difference.

🌧️ Flooded Roads in the Area 🌧️

Our department and surrounding agencies have responded to multiple flooded roadways across the area today due to heavy rainfall.

Water can cover roads quickly and may be deeper than it appears. Even a small amount of moving water can make a vehicle lose control or stall.

A few important reminders:
- Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown
- Watch for road closures and barricades
- Use extra caution at night when water is harder to see
- Never drive around barricades or through standing water

If you come across high water, take a different route and give it time to recede.
