This week at LifeWise, the giant lost. 🪨

Our students spent the week in 1 Samuel with David and learned:

Armor is overrated.

Five smooth stones is a very confident number.

The biggest thing in the room is not always the strongest thing in the room.

And the real trick was never the rock and sling. The LifeWise Quality this week was discernment, which means knowing what is actually true when everything in front of you is saying otherwise. David looked at a giant and still knew Who was bigger.

We are off to a great start of a new school year! Kids are back in the classroom, the bus is running its routes, and this fall we launched at Maxwell Intermediate School, which means Bible education is now available to all students in 1st through 5th grade in Greenfield-Central during school hours. God has led us into another year and answered a lot of specific prayers to get us here.

Keep praying with us. Pray for our staff and volunteers as they build trust with new students, for the teachers and administrators in each building, and for the children who will hear the gospel clearly for the first time in one of our classrooms.

With all of this change come new needs. More students means another classroom to set up, more Bibles to put in hands at the end of the year, and a bus that has to keep running every single week. That is why we are starting something new this year.

On Saturday, September 19, we are hosting our First Annual LifeWise Golf Outing at Arrowhead Golf Course in Greenfield, with an 8:00 AM sh***un start. Registration is $340 for a team of four or $90 for an individual, and that covers your cart, eighteen holes, lunch from the BBQ'n Fool, and a raffle ticket. Sign up on your own if you do not have a foursome and we will place you on a team. Registration closes September 11 at https://forms.gle/AEihTQWbx7xDsPbE8.

Our goal is $17,250, aimed at three specific needs. The first is $12,000 to pay off the LifeWise bus, so that every future dollar goes to students instead of debt. The second is $3,750 for our student Bible giveaway, which puts a Bible in the hands of every LifeWise student at year-end for the third year running. The third is $1,500 to set up our new fifth grade classroom.

Sponsorships are open as well, starting at $100 for a named hole sign and running through Bronze, Silver, and Gold up to our Title sponsorship with event naming rights, eight player entries, and a speaking slot at lunch. Contest holes, the lunch sponsorship, and the beverage cart are still available, and we are gathering silent auction items if you have an experience or service to donate.

"My dog ate my homework."

Sound familiar? Our students spent this week sorting excuses from real ownership and met a king who was really good at passing the blame.

God gave Saul clear instructions. Saul followed some of them, kept the parts he liked, and then told Samuel he had done everything exactly right. Samuel was not fooled, and neither was God.

Our LifeWise Quality this week was responsibility: taking ownership of your choices and behavior, including the consequences. That one is hard for all of us, not just second graders.

Parents, here is a dinner table question for you. Ask your student what excuse Saul made, and then ask what he should have said instead.

Who knew jeans could do so much good?

Bookkeeping Plus, Inc spent July wearing their favorite denim for "Jeans for a Cause" and raised an amazing $1,200 for LifeWise Greenfield-Central along the way. We are beyond grateful for their team!

We’re having another great week at LifeWise!

This week we’re learning about contentment, which means trusting that God will provide everything we need. In our story from 1 Samuel, Israel begged for a king so they could be like everybody else, even though they already had the best King there is. Sound familiar?

It’s okay to ask God for things. The trouble starts when we forget that what He’s already given us is enough. Ask your student this week what they’re thankful for!
