Yorktown’s Local Heartbeat Needs Our Help: Support the Yorktown Library

​If you’ve spent any time at any library, you know it’s so much more than just a place with books. It’s where our kids fall in love with reading, where neighbors connect, where we come to learn about new things and remember old things, and where our community finds a quiet sanctuary.

​Sadly, the recent catastrophic flooding has caused devastating losses to the building, materials, and resources. 💔 While the damage is severe, our community's spirit is stronger.

How you can help right now:

​Donate directly: Every single dollar helps rebuild, restore, and restock. Even the cost of a cup of coffee makes a huge difference.

​We’ve sorted thousands of donated books, DVDs, VHS tapes, and audiobooks just waiting for a good home.

Find some bargains at The Friends of Hancock County Public Library Book Sale! Most hardbacks cost only a dollar, and paperbacks cost 50 cents. Children's books are 50 cents and 25 cents. DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks are only $1.

The sale is open to the public Fri., August 14 to Mon., August 17.

Friends members may shop the sale early on Thurs., August 13 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. You may join the Friends at the door for just $15.

Monday is Bargain Day. Fill up a plastic grocery sack for $2, a paper grocery bag for $3, or a box for $5. After 2:00 PM on Bargain Day, non-profits are invited to receive two FREE boxes of books. Please bring ID from your organization (nametag, book order invoice, or letterhead).

The Friends of Hancock County Public Library is a non-profit, charitable group of volunteers who raise money through the sale of donated items. Proceeds help fund events and special projects at the library.

Calling all young readers!! Are ready for your next big adventure?

It’s time to gear up for our upcoming book sale brought to you by the Friends of Hancock County Public Library. Ask your mom, dad, grandma or grandpa to bring you to the Hancock County Public Library! Heck, beg your favorite aunt, uncle or older sibling who drives to arrange your visit! You won't want to miss this!

We have a special mission for you: grab one of these awesome "Battle of the Books" drawstring bags and fill it to the brim with your favorite kids' books for only $3.00!!!

The Challenge:

Pick Your Bag: Look for the light blue bag which can be found with one of our cashiers at the sale entrance.

Fill It Up: Hunt through our massive selection of children's stories and picture books.

Utilize your allowance (or ask mom or dad! 😆) to pay your bag of goodies for only $3.00!

One Simple Rule: This bag is specifically for kids' books only! No young adult books, please!

Whether you're looking for princes or princesses, a story about your favorite doll, or racecars and fire trucks, there is a treasure waiting for you. Let’s see how many stories you can fit into your "Battle of the Books" drawstring bag!
