The Greenfield Mayor's Office recently published a new community newsletter, "What's Going on Greenfield?!" to update the community on some of the latest local news developments.

"Everyone discovers information through different mediums," said Mayor Virginia "Ginny" Desorgher. "We hope our city newsletter can provide another reliable source for residents to stay up to date about what's going on in Greenfield."

Greenfield Community Preservation Committee Seeks Project Funding Input

GREENFIELD - The Greenfield Community Preservation Committee is seeking public input on the 12 projects under its review to help it determine which will receive funding this year. The CPC will meet on Thursday, February 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center specifically to collect public input on the proposals. The public may also provide feedback at any CPC meeting during the public comment period. In addition, the committee has developed an online survey to gather comments until the end of February: bit.ly/cpcfy24.

Applications were received for three affordable housing, four historical preservation, and five outdoor recreation projects, totaling over $1.4 million in requested funding. Over the last few months, the CPC has met with applicants to delve deeper into their proposals. All applications are available for review on the Community Preservation Committee’s page on the city website at https://greenfield-ma.gov/cpcfunding.

This year, the committee has $300,000 to allocate to Community Preservation Act projects. The CPA funds were generated through the City’s participation in a state program that allows a 1 percent surcharge on property taxes to be dedicated to these priorities. A percentage of local revenues are matched by the state each year. Greenfield voters approved the program in November 2020.

“We want the public to let us know which projects they do or do not want to see funded this year,” said Community Preservation Committee Chair Travis Drury. “The CPC received a nice variety of applications this year and we want to make sure the projects most important to people are the projects we recommend to City Council for funding. Any project that isn’t funded this year is eligible to reapply in future years.”

Following the public input process, the Community Preservation Committee will meet on March 21 to discuss the community feedback that was received. On March 28, the CPC will meet to decide which projects to recommend to the City Council for funding. All upcoming meetings will have a hybrid format to allow the public to join remotely via Zoom.

Those interested in learning more about the process are encouraged to attend an upcoming meeting or contact Community Development Assistant Christian LaPlante at 413-772-1548, ext. 4 or [email protected].

As the Community Preservation Committee reviews funding proposals, we see public input regarding community priorities as part of the process. Twelve applications have been submitted. Each have been determined to meet at least one of the Community Preservation Act's criteria of housing, historical re...
