With Fall Frolic coming up on Nov 22nd, we're pleased put out another board spotlight.

Friends of Greenfield Dance Board Spotlight: Suzanne Patnaude (she/her) board vice president.

How long have you been a part of the Friends of Greenfield Dance Board?
I first joined becane a member of FGD as a visiting dancer, to support the Greenfield dance community. Since moving here, I have remained a member in support of the work of the Friends and its mission statement. This time around, I have been on the board since 2022.

What’s something the FGD has done in the past six years that you’re proud of?
FGD has a robust safety policy, which has evolved over the many years and seeks to meet the mission of providing a safe, welcoming community. It is a living document, which is shared by other dance communities. I am also very proud of the dance callers workshop, which trains new callers and builds the dance community.

What do you enjoy about being on the FGD board?
I enjoy the fellowship with my colleagues on the Board, as well as helping to plan the themes for FDG dances and working at the FGD dance events.

What’s a wish you have for the FGD board in the future?
I would like to see FGD continue its good works in support of the dance and music in the area, with an infusion of new and diverse members across all age groups. I would also like to see FGD support other dance and music genres including Latin, ballroom, line dancing, Zoomba...

Friends of Greenfield Dance Board Spotlight: Kate Keliher (she/her) board treasurer

How long have you been a part of the Friends of Greenfield Dance Board?

I’ve been attending since summer of 2020 as a provisional member but I’ve been a full member since May 2021.

Why did you join the Friends of Greenfield Dance Board?

I joined the board as a way to feel connected to the dance community when we were in lockdown and to be part of the conversation on coming back safely.

What work are you proud of from your time on the board?

I am proud of our work on safety and community culture. I’m very excited that our policy has been used by other organizers in creating their own policies.

Friends of Greenfield Dance (FGD) is looking for board members!
You can nominate yourself or a friend by emailing us at [email protected]. Let us know your name and the best way to contact you!

What does it mean to be a board member for FDG?

We have a two hour zoom meeting every month and about four dance or music events every year. Over the past three years we’ve established one of the first contra dance safety policies at the Guiding Star Grange for our events, provided college students access to local dances, supported other organizers in going to dance organizing conferences, hosted hambo workshops, public sings, and more! Terms are one year or three.

Let us know if you want to support local music and dance in Greenfield, MA or learn more by emailing us at [email protected]

Have you ever wanted to learn to call contra dances?
We want to hear from you, right now, about any potential interest!

We need to hear from you! To craft this session, we need to know how many folks are interested, how much experience you may or may not have, and any particular topics you'd love to learn!
Email us at [email protected] ASAP if you are interested so we can budget, plan, and design a workshop series that you'll love!

Have you started calling, but would like more formal instruction with hands-on learning with peers?
Are you a contra musician, looking to learn more about the other side of the performance?
Are you a dance organizer, and would like the skills in the case that a caller is stuck in traffic, or had to cancel last-minute, and no other callers are available?
Are you an aspiring contra dance choreographer, and want to hone the skills.

Contingent on interest, Friends of Greenfield Dance is considering sponsoring a contra calling workshop series, sometime this summer / early-fall.
It would (contingent on interest) be led by Julian Blechner, and feature other veteran callers.

Students would be given lots of opportunity for hands-on practice and connection with local dances.
