Halloween Happenings Friday October 30, 2026
Everyone Invited to Free Events for Local Children

Main Street: Greeneville will be coordinating “Halloween Happenings” on Friday, October 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. in downtown Greeneville. All events are free, and the public is invited. Merchants, professional offices, banks, churches, and the county courthouse will be prepared to treat youngsters with candy if children are under 13 years of age and are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

More activities, still in the final planning stages, include the annual hayrides, chalk drawing in the street, Spooky Tales in the Old Gaol (Jail), dancing in the streets and more. Stay tuned for details as they become available.

Candy Donations and Participation Necessary and Welcome

Organizers welcome all groups, businesses, and individuals to get involved. For details on how to participate by either donating candy, handing out treats in person or simply wishing to volunteer, including any business not located in the downtown area that would like to sign up for your location along the route may contact the Main Street office at 423-639-7102 or email [email protected] to learn more on how you can join in to make this an outstanding event for area children. Scarecrows of Main Voting LIVE

Voting Open Now for Your Favorite Scarecrows

Public voting for Main Street Greeneville’s seventeenth annual “Scarecrows of Main” competition is open. Vote for your favorite scarecrows, in all categories, via the following link at https://forms.gle/CU45nim8NpMH1iJw8 or by dropping off your votes to the Main Street office at 310 S Main Street.

The QR Code at the display will take you directly to the ballot. All codes are the same so once you have scanned one you have all the entries listed and ready for your votes. Select the Entry Number or display name to cast your vote. There are several categories so pick your favorite in each category.

Voting remains open through Wednesday, October 21st. There are 6 different categories: residential, group/organization, and business. Votes will be tabulated based on the category selected on the entry form. Eighteen scarecrows were registered for the contest. This year’s contest is sponsored by Broyles General Store located at 730 West Main St. The winner in each category will receive a $25.00 Broyles General Store gift certificate, a winner’s certificate, and bragging rights. Winning entries will be marked and identified.

One overall winner will be judged by out-of-the-area judges.

Where are they?

The display area includes the eighteen-block downtown area known as the Main Street District along with Main Street from the 11E Bypass to Crescent School.

Entries may be found at: 615 W Main St. (Crescent School); 613 W Main St; 409 W Main St; multiple entries at 310 S Main St. (Andrew Johnson Complex); AJ Homestead, 209 S Main St; 101 W Summer St; 125 W Summer St; 124 N Main St; 218 N Main St; 220 N Main St. (WSCC); and 301 N Main St.
All entries will be on display to the public until Saturday, October 31st.

Main Street: Greeneville to offer DELICIOUS Smoked Boneless Turkey Breasts at our “Meat” on Main Turkey “Toss” Fundraiser. We are happy to announce we will be teaming up again this year with one of Greeneville’s own restaurants, Southern Craft Barbecue, to provide mouthwatering turkeys for us. Orders will be taken on behalf of Main Street: Greeneville until November 11th at 11:55pm.

Turkey Breasts will be boneless, fully cooked, packaged cold and heating instructions will be provided to warm up your Turkey Breast. They will be available for pickup at the Turkey “Toss” at Southern Craft, 2620 East Andrew Johnson Highway, on Tuesday November 24th from 3 to 6pm. Hurry and order yours today.

Scarecrows of Main 2026 Display Contest Seeks Entries

Bigger, Better, Best is the challenge to our community as Main Street Greeneville announces the seventeenth annual “Scarecrows of Main” competition to be held in downtown Greeneville. The contest is being sponsored again this year by Broyles General Store, which is located at 730 West Main Street. Bigger, Better, Best means more entries all over the downtown area; Better displays than ever before (and that is saying something) and to be the best contest and event in Northeast Tennessee if not the state. Let’s do this. The Scarecrows of Main 2026 contest is a great way to enjoy a trail of sorts, selfie spot, family outing and art appreciation all in one.

Entries are not limited to only those within the display area. Entries must, however, come from within Greene County or be a current 2025-27 member of Main Street Greeneville. This contest is open to all ages, individuals, families, groups, clubs and businesses. Each person, family or group may only enter one time. There are 4 different categories: Residential, group/organization, business or youth.

The display area will include the eighteen-block downtown area known as the Main Street District along with Main Street from the 11E Bypass to Crescent School. Entries from outside the display area will be assigned a location within the area where they may place their scarecrow.

Let your imagination run wild as you create that scarecrow you have always wanted to make. Could it be that we will see a straw ballerina, lawyer, shopkeeper, etc. hanging out in downtown for the next couple of weeks? Scarecrows should be family friendly – whimsical, humorous, mischievous not frightening.

No Entry Fee – Pre-registration Required

Pre-registration IS required thru the Main Street office, 310 S Main St, beginning Wednesday, September 9 through Monday September 21 at NOON. Display locations will be assigned and confirmed at the time of registration. Those who do not reside nor have a business in the display area are encouraged to also enter the contest as limited additional display space is available on a first come first served basis. Only those registered will be eligible for judging.

Displays

All entries must be in place by 7:00 am on Monday, October 5th. All entries will be on display to the public from Monday, October 5th through Friday October 30th. Further information regarding scarecrow locations will be announced via the media prior to judging.

Judging

The public is asked to vote for their favorite. You may vote once daily in each of the four categories: residential, group/organization, business or youth. Voting will take place Monday, October 5 through Wednesday, October 21. Details regarding how to vote for your favorites will be announced. Awards and certificates will be given to the winning entries. Winning entries will be marked and identified with yard signs.
